Has anyone had experience with composite leaf springs? They are considerably lighter and the manufacture claim they do not fatigue.
they are great. i plan on getting a set when i get around to doing my rear leafs. they are around 10 lbs where the stock ones are around 40.
in the mounting instructions it states...(Hyperco recommends the use of a lateral control / limiting device or similar device to control/limit the amount of lateral axle movement.)...what would this be on a Mav/Comet?
I have no personal experience with composite leafs but on the Syclone/Typhoon board that I belong too, guys that were running them ran into lots of problems with Flex Form springs breaking and delaminating
I was looking at these leaf springs and did read some of those threads on that board. I've also heard really good things about flex-form also. What are the manufacturers that make them for our cars?
Just got a quote on a set of composite springs. OUCH!!! Guess I'll stay with steel springs. Flexform wrote: "We can produce our composite monoleafs for your Maverick. Base price would be $425 for a pair plus a small amount to cover shipping increases since last pricing. Price of Flex Tracks is $325. We would need to do some checking on center mount design for the Flex Tracks as we haven’t made them for a Maverick before. No lateral bars/links are required with these."
You can use stock leafs easily by just removing some of the leafs to get where you want to go.The 6 cyl ones wosk good as they are only 500lb rated & are pretty soft.
I was looking at the composite units to lose weight and have a spring that cannot rust. I might just rebuild my stock springs and see how it works out.
