I'm here with a bit of time on my hands and was going over what lay's ahead on getting the kiddo's car back on the road and it hit me how bad he misses his Mav. You know I'm sure the attention the car got felt good, but what is it, why? I mean all the kids with the new $30k even $50k sports cars and his Maverick was the hit, he literally could not stop anywhere without getting caught up by admiring individuals, many grown men sure and that sound of a oversize cam is like a magnet that any gearhead can't resist, but also the girls, they just thought it the coolest thing. My question is do ya'll get the same attention, are Mavericks on the rise in being the next restorable, is the market price trending upward? Just your thoughts if you care...........................
i took my maverick to the autocross today and it was a big attention getter. it was a sea of miatas and frs's. the only other "old" car was a 240z. i was getting the "i had a maverick in high school" or "my buddy" or my "mom had a maverick" stories. then people loved seeing a maverick out there. the maverick is a rare car. several generations now were not even born when it was made and dont know what it is. it is a cool shaped car. any car with a v8 rumble is even cooler. best of all its not just another cookie cutter car that every body has.
I built my 72 comet for my senior year of highschool but with a 250 i6 and it got quite a bit of attention, everywhere i went i would be asked about it, i litterally had someone at a stop light get of the car and tell it was a great looking car,
thanks to both of you, Bryant I think your dead on with the fact it's a car rarely seen and many it's the first time ever seeing one and with as many as were sold, anyone over 35 or 40 either had one in the family or knew a family that did
Get used to the attention, everybody had someone in the family that had one, a lot of younger folks have only seen them in pictures with grandma or some other family member, I can't even go to the store for a quick cold drink stop without being there an hour or two, people walk up and want to talk about the Mavericks.
Yep with only 150 mi on mine I've already talked with four different people,, gotten several waves and had a guy hang out the window of a jacked up Chevy 4x4 giving me the thumbs up... That last one was when I was running open headers, dunno if he liked the car or the noise...
I've had people ask me at a gas station if I mind if they took a pic. with my car...not of it but with it...
Constantly have people breaking their necks to look going down the road. Stopping at the gas station takes longer than usual now. Lol. The maverick isn't something seen too often. It's not your normal everyday hot rod like the camaros, mustangs, and novas that flood car shows and cruise-ins. Definitely a unique platform to build therefore draws attention.
All makes sense, glad we got the little car.......I remember when we were looking for a project the kiddo wanted a 70 Charger or equivalent........................yeah right, I kept finding diff cars sending him pics and it was always, no, nah, it's not me Dad.....when I ran across the little Mav I thought I'm wasting my time sending him these pics......when he replied "oh dang Dad, YES, I think thats cool".........................long pause...................."hey Dad, what is it'? lol
Where Sam goes to school there are a bunch of very spoiled one's, the area has seen a large migration of affluent families, gated communities everywhere, when I was a teen while I didn't live in this area then it was country, we rode motorcycles no tags, no helmets (stupid I know) and didn't see a cop unless they were called, now there is one cop for every 5 people it seems..............although this community is rated the 2nd safest place to live in Arkansas. When it came time for a car he was the one who first mentioned an old car and fix it up, I thought wheww, thank god as I thought I'm going to get out cheap.................well that ain't going to be the case, lol, but his will still be a treasured item in his garage when he's 30, 40, 50.......................hopefully, and these "rich kids" cars will have long been recycled
I got to thinking after I posted that if Sherwood was still ranked #2, it is ranked 3rd in central Ar., not even in top 10 statewise but when you include the small low population communities of which there are many I can see it, heck some of the small towns in Ar. don't even need police departments, drive through some if your ever traveling through and you'll understand why, lol. http://www.katv.com/story/25861165/real-estate-blog-ranks-arkansas-safest-cities
A crane inspection company sent an inspector to do our cranes at my company on Friday and it turned out that he was from Venezuela - we got talking about cars and I told him I had a Maverick, his reaction was like I just told him I had a gold plated 1953 Vette or something - turns out his country has the same reverence for the Maverick as Brazil does
I've had alot of people trying to get a look at my comet when i take it out for a blast around the block to keep the battery charged. It's not legally allowed on the road yet so it's a trip around the block and back to the garage, but teenage boy come outta the house when they here it coming down the road, my 10 year old boys friends love it, and one of the guys at work even drew a picture of it for me
I took mine to a car show this past summer with my friends. One has a Grabber Blue 2004 Mach I, his son has a black Terminator Cobra and another friend has a yellow '54 Studebaker with a supercharged V6. All very beautiful cars. The Maverick got more attention than both Mustangs or the Stude. And mine has no identification on it except for the 'Maverick' on the dash board so I got frequent inquiries as to the make and model.
