Does anyone know of a good, aftermarket electric fan that will be easy to install and relatively cheap? its for a 71 maverick with a 5.0L. The radiator is from the original engine (3.3L ) thanks

Late 90s Taurus fan, Volvo relay and BMW switch. There are threads about it. Everything can be found at pick n pull.

kay thanks. I found the tech article on it but nothing in depth enough for me to feel comfortable with doing the wiring myself. Is there a article somewhere that will walk me through the wiring, install etc. ?

Also i would not be opposed to doing a manual set up for the high low speeds. Any info on how to wire it up for manual operation? Its a non a/c car

the Volvo fan needs to startup on low speed and then go to high speed...be sure and get the Volvo harness with the relay. this is what you need from the donor car.

thank you! i have a Mark VIII fan laying around. would it work the same as a taurus fan? could it use the volvo relay and BMW switch? i can always head to a junkyard and get a taurus fan but i figured since i have it laying around why no try and use it.

im pretty sure the mark vIII fan is too big to fit in the maverick. i used a 2000 escort fan on my car. it has a good offset built into it that helps with water pump pulley interference. my white car came with a Taurus fan and needed to be offset and has an open edge off the side of the radiator that required a cover plate. im pretty sure both fans use the same motor and have a very similar fan blade. the big difference is in the shroud. the Taurus shroud has the fan centered and the escort has it off set.

The Mark VIII fan is about 6" deep, uses a variable speed controller and the motor draws a lot of amperage, I suspect significantly more than the Taurus or Escort fans, so I would get one of those. Another choice is the condenser fan from a mid 90's Crown Victoria or Grand Marquis. It is inside the shroud in front of the engine driven fan and is the one I am currently using. It is a single speed fan and can be wired with a switch and relay and/or a temperature switch.
