Dont you have to do a conversion to get the 302 to fit the car? if its no extra expense ill do it but I dont know what all i have to do. What all will i have to change in the car? Like carb and all that

Russel-- Just find you a car locally with a good 5.0 in it that was maybe wrecked or body damage then you will have most of what you need. Buy the whole car, take what you need then scrap the car for some money back to you.

ok i have about two thousand that I can spend. Thats it. I cannot afford an entire scrap car or anything like that. I want a dependable engine that I know functions that I dont have to buy off some guy that will tell me the engine is fine and then later ill find out it has a lot of problems. Im not looking for an engine I have to rebuild myself. If i wanted that i would rebuild the 6 cyl that i have in the car and be done with it. but seeing as an already rebuilt 6 cyl is cheaper to buy than it is to get someone else to rebuild for me im going with the new engine.

Looks like you have a decision to make. Buy a wrecked car for $500-$600 with a good engine or have someone locally rebuild your engine. If you buy a rebuilt engine ready to go you will spend $1700 - $2200 for a descent rebuilt

I am going to assume....from all of your questions....that you will not be doing the work yourself. I am also assuming this is your daily driver car. If that is the case, and you say you have $2000, I would highly recommend you take that $2000 and buy another car. Then at least you would have a car to drive while you gain the knowledge, experience, and money it will require to fix the car.

But otherwise to answer your questions: To switch to a V-8 you will need a lot of parts your car doesn't have. You will also need a new exhaust system. There are threads on here that will detail exactly all the parts you need.

Lets start at the very beginning.....How do you know the head is bad and the rings are bad?

I was asking because Im not familiar with the v8. I know how to work on the 6 cyl. Ive been working with mine and researching it since before the summer. Could you please just refer me to somewhere I can buy a rebuilt inline 6? Thats all im asking and everyone keeps throwing round about stuff at me and all im asking for is a place to get an engine. I was hoping since many people on here do this for a living that they might have some connections or places they could refer me to.

And I know the head gasket is bad because its leaking again even after i replaced the head itself and put a new gasket. I believe the rings are bad because its burning the oil, overheating, has high oil pressure, and because the head gasket blew again.

Unless you had a Mav/Comet parts car with V8, you'll spend far more buying engine and swap parts for the V8, also one must have some idea what has to be swapped... If you're not savvy on swaps, forget it and find a six...

You probably have either a 200 or a 250 six cyl, finding a good used mtr would speed up your process tremendously. However, these mtrs are getting hard to come by now being as they don`t make them anymore,& getting a good one is really hard mainly because the head on them is junk & they crack.I wish you all the luck in the world, but if your head is not cracked I would rebuild what you already have as long as the blk has not been rebuilt before & does not need to be bored more than .040 over.

If your motor still runs....then I really doubt it has all the problems you list. I would suggest taking your car to a good, competent mechanic and have him check it out and let you know if it really needs all that. Things like a compression test will let you know if it needs those items.

    Where are you located?

    Too far from me. :D

Hopefully somebody closer to you can take a look at your car and help you out.

The local automotive machine shops around here, NAPA included, will rebuild an engine for you.
