Hello everyone I have a 73 Ford Maverick and as of right now I have the standard fan. I am trying to switch to and electric fan right now, but the only problem Im having is deciding on what kind of electric fan is best suited for the maverick, and from experience what has worked well in the past for you? Iv'e heard a ford taurus fan would fit, though (I've read it but nobody has described what year) work well, but can you guys please help me. If anyone has made the switch what fan did you use. Also if I was not to go the route of buying one from the junkyard, what newer style electric fan would work?
I was able to find this easily by using the Search function..... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=43847 http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2003/02/electricfan/index.php
I converted to a 14" Summit Racing fan and installation kit due to my 351W overheating in stopped or slow moving traffic i.e. staging lanes. The 3 1/2" thickness works out nicely. The 14" shroud does not cover the entire radiator but it cued my problem plus it continues to move air even after the engine is shut down. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g4903 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-890015/overview/
I thank you guys for giving me this information its going to make my purchase a lot easier . @Hotrock @Hottrod1991 @Rasit
I have a 16" fan and shroud from a supplier in GA(I think), got it from ebay a little over a year ago, $91 shipped... They were pricing them at $159 but listed one for bids at $89 and only had two bidders(I sniped at 10 sec to go)...
Yeah looks like they are still available but best price I saw on ebay for fan & shroud is $159(at least reg price hasn't increased)... Less the drilled holes, what you see is what you get, I used a different plug on mine as I couldn't match the one on the motor... http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-ALL-ALU...ts=Model:Maverick&hash=item418d6e73d3&vxp=mtr
At that price may as well get the better brand for 178 https://webstore.spalusa.com/en-us/...mance/30102048/va18-ap71-ll-42s-16-c-12v.aspx They also offer two top of the line 'extreme performance" fans for 220 and 230 both variaations of.spals curved blade design is better then any straight blade fan
Whoops actually the one ive linked is a pusher youd be better off with a puller fan which they have pretty sure most of their fans Work as both
I was looking up puller and pushers, which one would give you the most airflow if at all, and would be best suited?
I have used Spal electric fans in stock cars that peaked at 6500 RPM's at the end of the straight away with no problems so I bought one for my Maverick along with an AFCO aluminum cross flow radiator
Puller will draw more cfm pusher fans tend to obstruct air flow a bit since its in front of rad versus behind lastly get a fan shroud to Make the most out of the fan
That price is just the fan and does not include a shroud. If that 16" fan does not mount directly against the radiator fins you will have a gap and air will take the path of least resistance, that being through the gap and not the radiator. You do not want that. In other words, you need to take precise measurements to ensure a good fit.
