Hello, everyone. I'm an American living in Brazil, and I'm the latest (and hopefully the last) owner of a beautiful Brazilian-made 1974 Maverick SuperLuxo. It was built with the optional 302 V8, power steering, front disks, front buckets, and four on the floor manual transmission. The history of these cars in Brazil is pretty amazing - it was the only V8 muscle car made in Brazil, and it dominated stock car races for years. Unfortunately, good condition V8's are becoming hard to find at a reasonable price. With the small bumpers and different trim (no bull horns anywhere, of course), I think the Brazilian Mavericks have a cleaner and more aggressive look. Mine needed some engine work, so I opted to do it right with a whole new top end and exhaust. A mechanic friend and I are just starting that work now. It also needs some suspension and interior work. With the differences between the U.S. and Brazilian models, buying parts from the States has been a little tricky. Tips on the forum have been helpful, so figured I'd finally introduce myself and join the discussion. In answer to a question I get nearly every day from my wife -- yes, I do plan on bringing the Brazilian Maverick to the U.S. some day.
Welcome to the forums. Your car is nicely equipped. Have you seen a Brazilian Maverick wagon in person?
Welcome. Were those cars made in Brazil, or made for Brazil? I've noticed how popular Mavericks are in Brazil and have always wondered if there are Mustangs & Camaros there as well, or maybe Novas. I think they look good. I just don't care for the huge sport lights that the GTs have in the front grill, and I noticed that lots of Brazilians paint the sport mirrors black, which just doesn't look right. I like that they all have small bumpers and none of the emissions crap that the U.S. models have.
welcome... make sure to post some pictures. my car already sports the brazilian velocimetro and the contagiros. i might be looking for the center console as well...
Thanks, everyone. I'll start posting some pics of cars of Mavericks I see around town, and my own as the work comes along. Haven't seen a wagon yet. I saw a georgous red GT in my neighborhood the other day, but couldn't chase him down...
from Atlantic Canada! Tom and Gene: Don't get too excited... I'm sure SSL was refering to a beautiful red [Maverick] GT, not a Comet GT...
