I have an opportunity to pick up a set of wheels for the Comet, but wanted to double check myself on the sizing before I pull the trigger. Price is RIGHT !!!

18" foose rims with toyo proxes 255/60r18 tires Bolt pattern is 5x4.50 and backspacing is 4.5"

    Any thoughts ?

That's a 30" combination. Any chance you can test fit them before buying them?

Ya it won't be a problem test fitting them. I figure if they didn't work out, I could trade them off for something else and get my investment back.
The minimal research I've done relates to 15" & 17" wheels, not 18's.

Rims will fit. Tires have no chance

May work on the back -- I'm thinking they will rub on the front!

Well I Pulled the trigger knowing I will at a minimum be getting smaller front tires. A buddy needs a pair them so I'm not worried about that. The rears barely, and I mean barely fit. Width is fine, but the diameter is tight!
I am planning on lowering the car so going to do that first before addressing buying new tires.

I'm still not sold on the 18's as I originally was thinking of a set of Weld Draglite. Time will tell

I offer up this picture as some comedic relief :)

I wanted to see what the wheels would look link on the Comet, knowing full well the 255/60r18 tires on all four corners would look goofy, let alone not fit.
They actually fit. By fit, I mean I could actually bolt them on. Turning the fronts wasn't happening and the rears have about 1/2" of clearance between the tire and wheel well opening. But I knew this going in.

I had a 245/40/18 put on one of the front wheels so I could mock it up and make some adjustments. The diameter was identical to the 14" wheels that originally came on the car. I took a blurry pic of the 18 with the 245/40 tire on it.

We are going to lower the car, so that's going to be done before a final tire size is selected.

Finally, someone asked a wheel question and not a "rim" question.

Those tires are way, waay too tall. You need a 40 series.

245/40 is perfect if you're going to lower. I had slight rub with 245/45 before I rolled the lips

I have 255 40 18 fronts and 275 35 18 rears, 18x9.5 front rims and 18x10 rears. Fronts have a slight rub in the inner subframe @ full lock but could be remedied. There is another user that has 265 fronts and says they dont rub. For me the 35 series reas look like rubberbands I would like a 40 or 45 series to make it look better. I had a set of welds on my car and I really liked the way they looked but was upgrading to bigger brakes and they didnt fit in the 15s and I wanted benefits of low profile tires for autocrossing

    255 60 18 are suv tire size

Fuelish - is your car lowered, if so, how much front & back? I am currently in the process. Got the rear done last night with a 1" lowering block and going to chop a full coil tonight

Careful on cutting that much. I would cut 1/2 coil first and try it. I think I did 3/4 coil total and dropped 1.5" in front. Every car is different tho.

I put in mustangs plus 720 springs really stiff and cut I think 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 off and the rear is stock leafs probably a little saggy. Also I have a 4cyl now it raised the car noticibly when I did the swap, the pic with the drag lites was when it had a 302
