looking to get a new transmission. I had my mind made up for a while on the tko600 but after looking at other aftermarket transmission I am starting to question my choice. the motor will be in the ball park of mid 600s hp and mid 500so torque. I was looking at getting a tremec from liberty but now after looking into astro it seems like I can use their gear set or buy their Trans and still have the durability.
I am also looking into what roll cage I have to have for being at the track as the engine builder is telling me he is guessing it will easily run mid to low 10s. I want one that I can still access the back seat.

I always wanted to try an Astro-geared box after seeing pix of Bryant's (Mo's) tranny. You can even get the G-Force gears in straight-cut dog style, there's a great vid on Youtube showing an in-car drive around Road America with it. The Jerico in my Rambler is a straight-cut dog box...

I saw them but I figured when it says call for pricing it means it's out of my price range lol

When I see call for price I probably don't even want to know how much. But when I win the lottery I won't need to worry about price. Coincidentally bang shift just posted a video of someone using this trans on Facebook.

I have always heard of tremec that is why I decided on them I wasn't aware there were more companies out there that offer just about the same product

my g force t5 is NOISY! it bugs. i plan on changing to a tremic 600 when timing works out to get one and do it. i suspect the astro gear sets are just as noisy. if you listen to my autocross videos you here way more gear noise than engine noise. the worst is below 3000 rpm in 5th gear. that works out in my car to be around 70mph. so i will be speeding most of the time to protect my sanity and hearing.
i would recommend the g force gear sets only for racing use. for daily driving its a very annoying noise. i think i have some go pro video of just driving. ill see if i can find it and link it to this thread.

So has anyone used the Astro a5 gear set? I really want to get the transmission done soon and it will help save money using the t5 housing since I won't have to buy a new bellhousing for the tko600. Also I am calling Calvert today and getting the rear suspension replaced

They're a couple hours south of you (Taveras). You should drive over and take a look first hand...

I spoke with GForce yesterday Their rep told me to go with the 3650 Trans instead of the t5 because I was over the torque rating for the t5. ASTRO does use gforce housing so I question the housing holding up.

    Hey bLaH hA :
I'm running a Tremec 600 in my Comet and it's a little noisy also .. Not to where it's distracting , but you can
tell it's turning.. Actually , I find it a little reassuring . Fine Transmissions. I've run three Tremecs in the last 8 years and I personally would recommend them. Just my take on the post.

    Hi again:
I'll look up the part number for the Bell Housing , I think its a Motorsport but I'll be sure to post it . Also ...
If you're planning on installing a Tremec in a '70 Maverick .. you WILL have to cut the floor .. I had to raise
the floors in both my Comets three inches to clear everything and we reinforced the Upper Tunnel Area from underneath before we completed the sheet metal work on top. I suggest if you DO proceed with the Tremec that you begin your cut about two inches or so down from the top and then "fill in" the resulting gap after you're locate the
shifter location. Raising the tranny is vital since it affects the " pinion angle" of the drive shaft .. If you're planning to put some POWER to the ground .. I'd raise the floor. It's not as difficult as it sounds . If you would like to see "close up" how we did this .. you're invited to visit my shop and you can check it out. Send me a PM and I'll advise my
address .. I'm in Florida also (Deland )right down the road from Jacksonville..
I'll look the part number up this afternoon possibly.

I am starting to realize I am in over my head. When I bought the car I only wanted was a clean mav 500hp max to the wheels that didn't look like a drag car. I might have to take you up on that offer it would be nice driving the car down

    Just read your post :
Come on Down ! Straight down I95 .. turn right on LPGA Blvd. follow to 92 turn right and we're about 13 miles in from I-95.
We're usually here on Saturdays all day long working on one car or another . We have three cars in the works right now and one of the Comets that has the Tremec installed is in the shop where you could get a good look at the underside. I have creepers and pads here . Our lift isn't coming for another couple of weeks so you'll have to slide under the car . We can get it high enough with jack stands to safely view anything you want to see no problem. Lemmeno . Maybe send me an email www.cameocarclub@yahoo.com will come direct to me.
