Anyone replace the gasket on the gas cap? I was thinking about using a flat piece of rubber, in place of the dead fiber gasket???
If you have a car that accelerates hard and a leaking gasket, fuel comes right out of the tank . Track officials don't like that very much, ask me how I know!
Yeah I can't fill my Comet, have to keep it below 3/4 tank or it dribbles out onto bumper when I punch it...
Must be the old wheelie problem, I guess I've been lucky, in almost 30 years of owning non stock Mavericks, and racing, I've never had this problem.
I also was informed by track officials dumping fuel out cap. Use a billet one with good gasket on track days now.
Subscribing... I would think this part would be easy to get, or a substitute for another car (mustang?) be made to work
well, found this on mustang unlimited site......might work. http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=481+01
UPDATE...... so, I just cut out a piece of rubber, about 1/16" thick, and put it on my cap. Screwed on no problem, have to see now how well it works with a full tank. That may be a while, as I am NOT driving my maverick in the snow, nope!!
The type of rubber is important, buna-n or nitrile will take the fuel. EPDM will degrade over time but considering it will not be in constant contact it will probably survive for quite some time.
