If you own the car and plan to scrap the body take everything that you want. I don't see a huge demand for T bird sheet metal. I think it will look great.

 

ok... Here's what the ground effects from the t-bird look like so far... Still in progress so try not to be overly critical and focus too much on the nitty- gritty... Propper mounting, alignment and... someday paint will make it look cool... Cheers pals!!

As I said previously, I love it. Perhaps you can put a Maverick/Comet body kit into production. BTW are there Comets in Mexico?

 

I am not completely sure but I don't recall seeing Comet taillights and hoods as often as seeing the regular ones on the Maverick... I don't think the Maverick variations like the Grabber, Comet and Stallion were ever produced in here... ... or in Brazil (but I may be wrong) ... The one option I know of is there was a "Shelby" Maverick short production in Mexico (around 300 units were made)

As to the production of a body kit... I may... ... one never knows... I'd love to learn how to make carbon fiber parts and I'm sure there's a wealth of information on the net on this subject... but that'll be later on.

Hi there 55crownvic!!.. ... Bad news!... I just moved out of the shop I used to rent and everything is in boxes and buckests now... ... I may start work on it again within less than a couple weeks though... Sucks to own a body shop and not have time to work on your ride cause you're working on somebody else's... ... Thats tough, always hated to work on other peoples cars, when I had my own that I wanted to work on. I had a question about your build....it looks like there will be NO legroom for the backseat, or maybe even no backseat at all? I wanna do this same sort of build eventually, so am curiously following your every move, the car looks great so far, keep it up!!

 

You're spot on dude! ... That's the one compromise I hated the most (out of several ones I had to make)... Look, I'll tell you what I was forced to accept if I wanted to push through with this:

a) The cowl ventilation "grille" by the wiper arms will be closed and the whole cowl space beneath it will be filled with polyurethane foam, you ask why? ... I hated that decision too... but for me, "form follows function" and I didn't want to risk any leaks into the floorpans due to watter seeping through God knows which damn route (in and around the multiple layers of sheet metal that were cut off by the cowl, door mounting pillars and firewall in order to mate and match both cars' bodies)... Even though I made every effort to weld and seal every suspiscious joint I saw and I used generous amounts of joint sealer and body shutz once done with the welding, I still felt that water could somehow find an effing way to seep to the floorpans, In Cancun, it POURS in the reainy season... big time!!! streets get flooded and it feels like someone is throwing buckets of water on the windshield, not kidding... ... so I said f&% it!!... after all the welding and sealing I'm still filling the thing with foam and call it a day!

b) If I wanted to keep the gas tank in the t-birds (sorry, I keep saying T-bird or Cougar indistinctively, MN12 platform is the same for both cars) original location underneath the back seat sheetmetal for better safety I would have two choices: Either fabricating a custom aluminium tank so that I could rearrange the back floorpans in order to leave some space for back passengers' feet... or leave it as it is now and have no provision for that... consider it a two seater only... yes, it sucks, I know... but when the prospect of driver and passenger airbags installed (donor '94 has them) in a Maverick is right there, soooo FEASIBLE, things don't look that bad anymore... right?

c) I had to modify, switch and move the hood hinges forward cause if I had mounted them in the Maverick's original position, they would've taken up some of the room needed (by the firewall upper corners) for the a/c evaporator... And, again, you NEED a/c in here... hot as a bitch's ass in summer!!! ... The hood now looks and works awesome (to me) so that's the compromise that actually kind of turned out to be something cool without expecting it.

I'll be very glad to help you any way I can with your project... sometimes simple things make you or break you.... I now know where I screwed up and so you don't have to.
