    1974 maverick grabber
    Hello everyone,

I recently bought a 1974 maverick grabber. It is white and brown stripes with a brown interior. I have looked at many pictures on this site as well as the internet and decided i like the grabber blue with black stripes the most.

I plan on changing the interior color because i am not a fan of brown. Was thinking about going all black but i am hesitating due to there being no AC in my grabber.

Also i am a college student and trying to make a nice car for cheaper. I have some experience with cars so i plan on taking the DIY approach to most things.

Any other color ideas an maybe pictures of some interiors?

You might consider a combo of and vinyl/cloth. My car has AC and I am glad I went this way. My interior was black vinyl, it is black vinyl/grey cloth combo. If sweat a lot all vinyl is not a wise choice, IMO. If you intend to do your own interior/seat restoration, Fred Carello a member of this forum does a lot of our cars. He did my seat covers and I installed them a few years ago over the winter.

My interior was originally all black, and I mean ALL black. Hated it. Changed it for awhile to dark brown. Then back to black but broke it up with oak veneer on the dash.

So you hated how it looked because it was all one uniform color? or that it was the color black? or what exactly

I have never been a fan of black interiors. A light tan would look good with blue in my opinion.

The fact that it was nothing but the same color. I don't mind black but it needs to have something else with it, IMO. I probably wouldn't care for any interior that's all one color.

    73 Grabber,
I painted my 73 grabber blue. The plastic and door panels were already a factory blue and still in fantastic condition. Seems like most folks like to go with a black interior when but I opted to keep mine blue. I found original factory blue vinyl and had all my seats redone. Added new blue carpeting and headliner then bought reproduction SEM factory blue paint for everything else. It's looking fantastic!

I agree! I like my interior a lot better w/ the change in seat color; I think, overall, it makes the car look a lot better. I wud not go back. I had the chance to make the inserts "black cloth", had a pole on the forum on this issue and most favored going w/ black cloth -- glad I went w/ the grey! If I were to do it again I wud go w/ leather & cloth.

Are you painting the vinyl with "vinyl dye" and is it the whole panel or just stripes?
I would like to see pics when its done.

No dye - the inside of the doors and dash are steel so they get painted orange - I'm leaving the original black door panels intact

I went all cloth when I had my 74 Grabber interior re-upholstered. I used a Lincoln/Mercury light grey cloth with a darker grey Taurus inlay with dark grey cloth piping. I think the all cloth seats look great and many street rodders seem to agree. My second favorite is faux leather with cloth inlays.

Go with Black or 2-tone Black & Gray.

Without A/C, it's gonna be hot no matter what the color of the interior is.

    Edit: 2-tone
