Started restoring a Comet grill that needs a few repairs. Check out my project thread for pics (click the picture in my signature block).

Plumbed up a transmission cooler that I got off a Chevy pick up from the pick n pull. Flushed out the cooler and lines in the radiator. Dropped the leaking oil pan, cleaned it up, repainted and reinstalled with a new one piece Fel-Pro gasket. Figured it was easier to do now before the tranny goes back in.

Took the Comet out for a test drive after the engine rebuild. What a difference, I thought my car was pretty "peppy" before, but now it is even better :bananaman: The rebuild did confirm I need a new differential - one wheel peel just won't do it. Getting a Detroit TrueTrac differential put in the pig and will re-install in the rear end on Monday. My brother also installed one of the logo lights in the trunk. Trunk has been spatter painted and the logo light is on a magnetic mount which I can store on top of the wheel well when I'm not using it. My brother also installed a switch on it. Other logo light will be installed under the front bumper behind my spoiler. Here's the one in the trunk

Built the 8.8 rear end. Installed Ford racing carbon fiber clutches, 4.10 gears, all new bearings and 31 spline Moser axles. Should be enough for the street. Picture 105.jpg Picture 106.jpg

Put in the Detroit TrueTrac differential and took it for a spin. :clap:Painted the rear end, leaf springs and brake drums. Wheeled on two coats of wax and shined up all of the chrome. All of the winter projects are done and my baby is ready for cruising and car shows.

I've got lots more important things to "fix" on the Comet but it's a nice sunny afternoon and I've been wanting to do this for a while now. Here's the "before" photo:

Parts removed and everything taped off.

A couple of coats of primer.

And here's the "after". Not bad for a couple of hours work and a can of spray paint.

Keep in mind this is far from a show car and never will be. It's something I'm having fun with.

It's a thing of beauty but I almost guarantee it will crack if I look at it funny!

I don't know if this will help, but I used this method to remove the black goo around my windshield.

I scraped off a ball of it and pressed it against the remaining goo adhering to the windshield frame. Large sections of it would adhere to the ball and come off of the metal until I had a sizeable piece of the stuff in my hand. I found this more effective than using a putty knife.

I'll give that a shot. So far it's coming off OK, just gooey and sticky!
