That's what I use, and it have the bolt sticking out the top, so you can use an extension thru the shock hole.

Anyone got a video on how to compress these springs. Am about ready to throw the towel in.

Basically the A-Arm in on the firewall but everytime I compress and put into the place the it's either not compressed enough but the ends are hitting the a-arm or is compressed enough but scratching a-arm when i try to release.

Silly question. Should I be compressing the spring and a-arm together and attaching the a-arm to the firewall afterwards instead of compressing the spring to place onto a-arm

What do you mean by scratching? What tool are you using to compress the spring? Are you lining up the end of the spring to the tab on the saddle?

    Another picture

J-Hook type should be placed two or three coils up on spring, leaving space for the threaded center bolt... It's often necessary to use a spacer on top so it's easier to compress spring(Note spacer visible in upper gap of my unit, just slips over center bolt)...

Pict was taken of steering sector, spring just happened to be in back ground...

And the top is on the left side in the pic.

Yeah I should have mentioned that, as well as the spacer keeps from having to crank the screw so far into the spring, preventing it from setting down on the perch...

I always remove the perch to gain a little clearance and if it's doable, the entire upper control arm. I'll remove the nuts from the upper control arm and swivel it out of the way without separating the ball joint.

Thanks. I believe I've found the answer and so embarrassed. We had to cut the rod being using on the spring compressor to stop it hitting the bottom of the a-arm.

    Feel like such a twat.

This is a good article. I'm about to replace my shocks, UCAs, and perches
