I just drained the fluid from my c4 tranney and replaced the filter, How many quarts does it need? Thanks 1973 Mav 302
Put a few quarts in, then start the car and leave it running while you put in the rest. Keep checking the dipstick.
If you drained only the pan it's maybe three or four quarts, if you drained converter as well total should be 9 quarts for a V8 transmission(converter is larger than 6cyl)... Assuming dry, add no more than five quarts then start engine and add remainder...
X2. Three to four quarts. Just finished a rebuild with an 10" converter and it took a total of 7 1/2 quarts.
I have a clear 1 gal. plastic jug I drain my transmission fluid in. I can gauge by that how much to replace. the clear jug also lets me see any sediment in the fluid by letting it set overnight. note: the longer you let it drain the more it takes to refill. it will drain half the converter if left over night.
I have a hard time getting a true reading on my transmission fluid .Is there something I can put in the pan to keep fluid from splashing back on the dipstick
