I'm having a hard time locating the grommets for my automatic column shifter arms that connect to the shifter linkage to the tranny. They are wore out and loose. Where can I get these?

    Thanks

The help section at most auto parts has a assortment, you'll probably need two packages and I still wound up making the bushing that fits into frame mount...

Got some ordered. Thanks. For some reason I cant locate Park or Neutral so I can't break in the new motor. Is there a diagram showing what all is required for the linkage to collar arms. Is there a stabilizer arm or spring in that area that may have come off or needed? The column shift arm doesn't feen right. Too loose or something.

    Thanks

I found out why I can't find park or neutral. I'm missing the bracket that stabilizes the shifter arm and the linkage. I have two. One on each side. One mounts to the body on the steering box side. (hard to get to), and the one I need mounts to the motor side. Held in place with a bell housing bolt. That's the one I need to stabilize the linkage. Anyone have one?

    Thanks

If this is a V-8....there is a "stud" that threads into a boss on the block. This is your pivot point.

Do you have one? Or where can I get one? Do you have a photo of what it looks like or mounted? The person that removed the old motor failed to notice it.

    Thanks

But only if you have a '70s block, the ones used in early '80s & up lack the boss... For those the bracket that attaches with bell bolts is necessary(aftermarket part or fabricate)... A friend made mine from a water pump rear cover after I mocked one up in thin card board...

Yeah, I'm going to need to locate that bracket or like you said, fabricate one. I picked up a Maverick floor shift yesterday which looks like Mustang. Not sure if it will work because it looked like the floor hump of the grabber it came out of was higher than the hump of my Maverick. Plus not sure if the linkage actually goes to that shifter.

Is there any way your friend can fabricate one for me? I'm having the same problem with mine. The new block I installed did not have the boss to mount the stud to.

No sorry... It was a one shot deal, template is long gone and the one he made is installed... Plus he just got out of hospital after having kidney failure, and is rather limited in what he can do anyway(believe it when someone says getting old is Hell)...

As you can see, there is no pivot stud stabilizing the shifter arm. It should not be difficult to fabricate a bracket to work. Just need to get it on a lift.

Well necessity is the mother of inventions. I fabricated a pivot stud bracket and it shifts fine now from the column. And I did it all without a lift.
