Just received my new nine inch rear end and ten inch drum brakes from Quick Performance. I'm guessing that this should be a straightforward swap but wanted to check with those who made the swap if there is anything I should be looking out for. I'm especially interested in what brake lines to use. Will the Maverick pre bent ss lines from Right Stuff work or is there a better option. I can already see that I will need a t-fitting to join the left and right brake lines to the one coming back from the master. All tips appreciated.

I used the existing brake lines from the original rear end on my nine inch differential. They were in excellent shape and worked with the new wheel cylinders that I had installed. I don't know about the Right Stuff lines but based on my experience with the stock lines would assume they would. The emergency/parking brake lines from the factory rear end worked as well.

I was thinking the Maverick 8" had a different size "brake bolt" vent than the 9" rears do. Seems like the 8" had a 9/16" fine thread and the 9" had 1/2" fine...

If you're referring to the vent hole on the axle tube you are correct. Not only are the holes sizes different but they are not in the same location. In order to get the standard replacement metal brake lines that attach to the rear axle to line up I would have to drill and tap a new hole in the axle tube to get the standard left/right brake lines to attach. I was wondering if there were other options.

When we swapped mine just last summer, I unbolted and secured the comlete brake line up out of the way, swapped the housings and bolted all of it back together with new, larger u-bolts. The junction block located in the same position on the bigger axle as it was on the 8". I can't recall the details regarding the vent bolt but I don't recall any problem with it either. My differential came from a '70 Boss 302 but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

Now I'm thinking it was 7/16" and not 1/2", not sure... I recall using a brake hose block from a 70's F-100, the hose part is a bit longer.

They made so many 9 inch rears over the years I'm guessing there are many variations. My nine inch axle housing has a 1/2 inch vent hole 17 3/16 inches from the inside of the axle flange to the center of the hole. I cant tell exactly how many TPI it has because the brass insert is tapered and doesn't quite match up to any of my dies. The eight inch axle has a 7/16 inch vent hole 14 inches from the inside of the flange to the center of the hole. I'm thinking that I should drill out the attachment hole on the flex line hose so I can screw a 1/2 bolt into the existing hole then see about making custom brake lines to fit.

I purchased same 9" housing from Brydon back in 2012 and same thing with the vent tube, because of new axle tubes Quick Performance installed the vent tube on housing part. It is a 1/4" NPT thread. There is a couple of things you can do, I have just retapped the hole for 1/2" x 20 and made a new vent/rear brake block fitting, I think you can buy a new 1/2" vent fitting from Melvins, it was just quicker for me to machine a new one.
The other option, get the measurements off your 8" and drill/tap a new 7/16" x 20 hole onto the new 9" axle tube,
just like on the 8", tube wall thickness is more than on 8" so no problem, at least you will then beable to hook up your original lines and use the same 7/16" vent tube fitting. You can then use a 1/4" NPT plug to cap off the one in the center housing section.
This is probably the easiest option, as going the 1/2" route would also require drilling out the rear distribution block hole out to 1/2".

did you get the big "webbed" housing or std version?

Thanks David. I think your suggestion is the easiest way to go. I'm not sure what the difference is between a webbed housing and the standard housing.
