Generally any GM trans is a PITA to use in a Ford... Input & output spline count are different as probably is shifter location, bolt patterns etc...

Good Morning Tom, you always give me the best most trusted information, THANKS!!!!! Did you help design and build the Mavrick?? LOL.........:bowdown:
Could you do me a big favor....... I am looking for the easyest plug and play with little modifications to what i have currently, factory 302, 3 speed, shifter in the floor with headers and power steering, no A/C. 2.79 rear..... I am looking for an 8 inch LSD and thinking of 3.00 gears when i find one.. will that be ok behind a T5 or should i think something different? I see myself doing the rear posi w/gears first and then hopfully i will have found all the parts to do the 5speed swap later..... Where can i find a parts list for the T5 swap?

What is the best Trans to look for? year time frame..... 1985-1993????
    Bellhousing bolt up, fork position?
Crossmember, where can i find one?
Drive shift will the factory length bolt up?

Thanks again for all the help!!!!

if you already have a stick shift car, get the adapter plate for the bellhousing from moderndriveline, the t5 crossmember from 71gold on here and a ford wc t5 transmission, 85-93 sounds about right. thus, the fork and linkage remain the same.
driveshaft length needs to be determined after everything is bolted up.

    What tody said...

The '89½-'93 5.0 trans is a little stronger but unless you power shift 3rd, probably isn't going to make any difference(yeah I broke a '86)... There is also a 4cyl T-5 that has a stump pulling 3.97 1st and is weaker than any V8 version, stay away from those...

For a rear go with a 3.25... With the .68 O/D, final ratio will be 2.21 which means you'll be turning less RPM on freeway than the present 2.79... I'd recommend deeper gears but a 3:35 1st gear T-5 becomes awfully short after 3.50...

Thanks Tom & Tody, I will start the search and try getting all these parts together...... Wife, Life and Kids keep me pretty busy and pockets empty so this is going to have to be part by part..

3.25 with .68 O/D how well would that be behind my 3 speed for now till i find the t5 and all the works? I am pretty sure i am going to do the LSD/ rearend first.... I plan on ordering the 8inch center section built already, being that i know nothing about rear ends the builder should know what i am asking for right??
http://www.quickperformance.com/ anyone have experance with these guys.....???

Going to a 3:25 would give a noticeable increase in acceleration, especially in 1st gear, BUT the T-5 with 2.79 would will give a similar increase(.68 O/D is 5th gear in the T-5)... If you spend $1000 on a rear end, it's probably gonna be awhile before you get all the parts for the T-5 swap together... Would make sense to me to get your money ready and keep a eye out for the transmission, if you spend it on the rear one will pop up while you're broke...

the t5 is about an inch longer, so the driveshaft might to get shortened
