Since PowerTour is only a few weeks away, and I haven't seen a thread on it, I figured I'd start one. I've been wanting to go for years, and finally made up my mind that this was the year. (After so many vacations to the beach, I decided it's my turn to pick the vacation). While it would have made more sense to drive the Mustang, with it's 3.50's and 5 speed, it would just be another 69 mustang. (Yawn). So the 4.11s came out of the Maverick for some 3.25s. The seat just came back from the upholstery shop today, and a layer of peel and seal with insulation went in under the carpet. (Gotta keep the Mrs comfy). Still need to give it a thorough once over, sort my tool bag, find a compact spare, and check the ac charge. So, who else is planning on making the trip? I'm planning on going the full route, so stop by and say hi. It's always nice to meet others from the MMB.
if you have a locking rearend make sure the spare is the same dia. as the rear tires. Chip said he has his Comet ready and he is going. have a safe trip. Frank
have a safe trip. i'm looking forward to seeing pics and watching the youtube coverage on the motor trend channel!
Thanks guys, the rear is open now, I just swapped chunks to get some (better) highway gears. Although the tiny gas tank is still limiting range. I've been contemplating an auxiliary tank, with an electric pump to refill the main tank on the fly, just haven't gotten the details worked out.
Hello Cyclone: Yep .. We're pulling out Thursday afternoon since Alex can't get Wednesday off from work.. Planning to head for Kenosha , Wisconsin to meet with some dear friends and then From Kenosha, Wisconsin to the START of the run in Wisconsin. From there it's on to Champaign ,Illinois and so on . If you're interested , PM me and I'll give you our cell phone numbers . It's nice to know that there are OTHER Mavericks and Comets making this annual run . I've made Six so far , and I've been looking forward to this one for a couple of years now. My COMET is ready for the trip and I have packed a "spare" , a 1-1/2" ton Jack , jackstands, mat , and a compliment of tools which may have to be used. Also a good flashlight .. another Serpentine Belt and the usual things taken on a trip. That's quite a hike from Oklahoma .. I used to live in Bethany , Oklahoma years ago . Hope to see you at one of the stops along the way ..just look for a RED COMET and a BANZAI BLUE MAVERICK that'll be us . Cometized (Chip)
Hi Chip! We are going to long haul again this year and look forward to seeing all of our "car friends". Hopefully we will see you and Alex again as it has been a while. Cyclone, you are going to enjoy your trip, this will be our 10th Power Tour and 7th long haul. I have always said this is the coolest thing we can do with cars because we drive them, a lot! I have the orange Maverick with the shaker scoop, be sure to say hi. 2 days of work left and then on the road again! John
Hi John: Long time no see .. The last time was on the POWER TOUR of 2009 . I have a couple of photos of you and your 72 Maverick with the " Shaker-Hood" which I took in Madison , Wisconsin. If you wanted to see the pics then go to my website www.cameoclub.com and click on Annual Events. It's listed as POWER TOUR 2009 . Is Susan coming also ? I thought you were from New Jersey ?? I see by the icon on the forum that you're now in Minnesota. That's not too far to drive . I'll look for you there when I check in. This time we'll be in a Viper RED Comet .( The one pictured in the forum icon) . Looking forward to seeing you again. We should see a lot of our type cars this trip. See ya then. Cometized (Chip)
Chip, it's been too long....glad to hear you are well and traveling again. I did see those pictures before and brings back memories LOL 2009 was the Madison to Bristol trip and when we finished the PT I did continue on to New Jersey. I am from there originally but spent most of my life in MN; I took the opportunity to visit family that year because we were so far east. Yes, Sue and I will be traveling together, she is a wonderful co-pilot and really does enjoy the trip. While she wasn't too happy about the venue choices (we have been to most stops before) she is looking forward to seeing old friends which makes the trip much more fun. BTW the Mav is a 69.5....still has the key in the dash. I am amazed at how popular our cars have become; I remember the first PT in '05 I was the only Maverick I saw, last year there were multiples at each venue it seems...lots of love for these cars now. Looking forward to seeing you, we will be running around Madison Friday afternoon and hope to meet up with you and Alex. John
Glad to see another on tour! We are leaving Friday afternoon, and I cannot wait. This has already been a ridiculously long week, and Tuesday isn't over. The car is clean, oil is changed, and given a good once over. John, I was overwhelmed with pictures from friends when they saw your car in Stillwater a few years ago, I ran out after work, but missed you. Hope to catch up with both of you guys next week. -Will
Hi Will: I took a "video" of the sequential taillights on my COMET and I tried to send it to the forum and couldn't figure out HOW to do it .. I thought that maybe you would send me your email address and I could send it to you.. then maybe you could put it UP on the forum. These lights make a tremendous difference. Thanks Cometized (Chip)
Hi Joe: Thanks for the encouragements . We plan to take a BOATLOAD of pictures .. There are a few of the members on this forum that are planning to meet up with us along the TOUR route at different locations. Looking forward to actually putting a face on the "icon" on the forum. Incidentally .. I recommend EVERYONE try this Power Tour just ONCE before it's outlawed or something. Ha . Cometized (Chip)
Will and Chip, I look forward to meeting up with you guys along this trip and agree with the statement Chip made; Everyone should try this trip at least once, even for a day or two to get a taste of it. Once you do you'll get hooked! Safe travels everyone and see you in a couple of days. John
Hi John: Yep !! We're ready to roll here in Florida .. wish I could start a little earlier but Al can't get off work till Thursday Afternoon..He's a boss at Drive-Time here in Florida . These guys refurbish about 30 cars per DAY and get them ready for re-sale, so they rely on Al being there. Al reserved a week of his vacation Last Year so he could be sure to be able to make THIS Power Tour . It's like you said John .. It's addictive ! Cometized ( Chip)
Hi again Will: I posted a video earlier on the MCCI forum for COMET sequential Taillights . There are a few COMETS out there already that are saying positive things. I'm completely happy with EASY PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS. We also have a set of MAVERICK Sequentials which we are installing next month in the '70 Maverick. I think my Daughter will want a set in her '72 Maverick when she sees them installed. We'll see eh ? Anyway .. Looking forward to seeing you folks on the TOUR .. We're pulling out tomorrow afternoon at about 3:00 pm and driving till we get tired .. rest and resume the next morning. Should be in Oshkosh , Wisconsin sometime FRIDAY .. stay the night .. then on to the TOUR Registration area. See you folks there maybe. Cometized (Chip)
