Hello everyone. I am very new here and haven't done anything like this, but I have a question. So, I have an electric fan hooked up to my 1976 Ford Maverick. Because it is always hot, the fan is always on until the radiator cools down. Being that I live in Texas, it always seems to be hot. That being said, it kills my battery. I would like to hook it up to where it goes on only on ignition. Any thoughts? Thank you.
Cut the line that feeds the fan and hook it up to a relay. The trigger for the relay can hook up to Your starter solenoid on the fender make sure it's the terminal that's hot with key on not in start. As always make sure everything is fused. This is all assuming you have some sort of tempswitch/ relay control already.
You probably will have to upgrade the altenator from the stock 55/65amp to something w/ a little more output, too. But, as mentioned in the preceding post; a relay in the pwr circuit is the first priority, if you don't already have one. In Texas, that fan will run a lot - that means it will consume a lot of current/power. It's suppose to run until the temp comes to wherever the control sensor dictates.
