Prepped, seam-sealed and primed the interior and trunk area last week . Spent today removing the surface rust from the roof. I hate painting cars.

Wow .... just catching up with this thread .... subscribing! You have a lot of neat stuff going on here.... very creative build.

Great starting point too ... even down to the "right" color ...lol. I believe the Mercury name for this color was Light Forest Mist. My ultimate plan for mine is a small change to Legend Lime ... it is a '05-'06 Mustang color. Similar to original, yet a touch brighter and more metallic. I plan to let a pro spray mine. I have the same doubts that I could shoot it well enough to be happy with it.

Thanks Jeff. I know the color you're talking about. Very good looking. I hate to disappoint but I am changing mine to just plain white.

I've been at it pretty hard over the last several weeks and I still don't have much to show as far as progress. The shell has been primed, blocked and primed again. The engine bay, door jambs and trunk jamb received "color" and clear coat today. I need to paint some suspension parts and then get the wheels under it so I can get it out of the garage to start working on the doors, hood, trunk lid, valances, etc., etc.

I say again, Tom -- level of work more impressive with every post. Pleasure to watch the progress and speed getting it done. Makes no different what color you make it -- GREAT BUILD!!!:thumbs2:

White is fine ... my first Comet was all-white ... bumpers too (crusty, nasty, rusty things and the car was only 9 years old at the time ....) This picture was from around 1980 ....

The reason why I got this car was that I felt the need for a "sleeper" after the cops kept following my Torino around. Turns out there was another Torino very similar to mine in town too. I was no angel, but apparently that guy was a total animal. I met his best friend 30 years later. Collectively, I am sure that we were known by the sheriffs as "that #$%#ing Torino!" ... Lol.

It was about three more years before I got another ticket, after buying the Comet.

That's going to be a dang nice car. I went through the thread and didn't see it, what are you doing for heat/AC? The hole in the firewall is note stock by any means!

Nice looking Maverick! I love the dog dish hubcaps on the white rims.

Thanks! I am going with a Vintage Air unit. Since they don't make one specifically for the Maverick/Comet (and it probably wouldn't have fit with my modifications if they did) I pieced it together from their catalog. The hole on the passenger side of the fire wall is where the Coyote engine wiring harness goes through. The plate that will cover the hole will include the bulkhead fittings for the A/C and heater lines.

Masked off the entire car today and painted the tail panel satin black...

Going to be awesome, like the Falcon. I like those wheels - what are some details on them?

Thanks! The wheels are 15 x 8 Centerline Split Spokes. You can order them with custom backspaces. If I remember correctly the rears have a 4 inch backspace and the fronts have a 4.5 inch (I think).

Looks like a lot of work but I love it. I might have tried this 20 years ago. to old now.
