how could you determine whether you have a steering valve going bad as opposed to a power steering pump going bad?
when you first start the car , and drive a short distance it steers good , (about 3 miles) then after that the steering wheel starts to feel funny, like driving down the highway if the wheel is straight and you turn it a little it feels like it skips a little then it catches same left and right , then it seems to wonder more, not the alignment because it doesn't wonder when the car is cold . Also after its warm it does it sitting at a stop light if you turn the wheel while at idle , no play in front end parts all new, hard to describe without driving it I guess
have you ever felt of what I'm describing, does it usually work to adjust it? I will give it a try , thanks
I haven't but it's worth a try... If too loose is usually extra play in steering and may not have full assist in one direction if too tight(also steering could be lazy to return to center)... After rebuilding my unit, I had to adj it a couple times till I got the best ''feel", I believe it's now backed off approx 1/8 turn... I'd think a hot issue would be a seal problem inside the valve, or maybe the assist cylinder has a internal issue...
If it feels loose all over the road and you have to constantly saw the steering wheel left to right to stay in your lane...then yes.
