    Hi,

My name is Kenn and I have been a member of this forum for about 2 weeks now. I had a 1972 Ford Maverick Grabber back in 1977; when I graduated high school.

I have always wanted another one. I retired from the Air Force/Air National Guard in 2013 and have started thinking about getting a Maverick and restoring it.

I have a friend I was stationed with, back in the 80s. He is retired too and restores cars in Dallas. He is willing to help. He says that whatever Maverick I get, we can change it to look like the Grabber. I want to get the Grabber and spend the money on other options.

What do you think? I have looked at a lot of great restorations here and you are my inspiration. Maybe I am being too nostalgic wanting the 1972 as my starting restoration?

I appreciate any and all advice any of you care to share.

    Thanks!

    Kenn

Congratulations on the belated retirement. Cloning a Maverick into a Grabber is easy except for the VIN number as long as it's a 2-door. I was lucky and got all my Grabber parts from the junkyard. I did replace the hood with a carbon fiber Grabber hood when I had the car painted. Craigslist might be the best place to start looking for a good deal.

Thanks! I will keep that in mind. I figure the more original parts I can get in the beginning, will save me time and money I can use for upgrades and changes.

Once you've determined what you'd like to have, would be a good idea to broaden your Craigslist search... Seems like the desirable cars/deals are always at least a state or two away...

    :Welcome: from Wisconsin!

There are some very nice, well priced cars out there, both real grabbers and non-grabbers. Be patient and don't rush into a car you are really not too thrilled about just because you are afraid of not finding anything else. There is nothing wrong with a clone but real grabbers are out there yet.

Thanks Eric, that is a very good point. I really am willing to wait and get what I want.

That is so true. I live in Arizona, and there never seems to be anything here. My buddy lives in Texas, and he seems to pull up cars for sale every week and with in 80 miles of Dallas.

if youre willing to transport or travel california arizona nevada and florida would be real good places to find what you want
Ive managed to fin and buy 16 mavericks/comets in the last 7 years and I know of a dozen more around town that are just setting or people are "working" on them even though mother nature is the one whos really working on them.

very good point try to remember this when "the one" comes up.
also if you watch the way car buying goes winter time is a better time to buy a car . theres less demand because not everyone will go out in the rain or cold and work on there car or think about buying and fixing up a car when its cold and raining.

Thanks a lot. I never considered about waiting for winter, but it makes perfect sense. I appreciate the advice.
