I need to install hood pins on my carbon hood and have a couple options. Traditional round style or the AeroCatch style. The problem with the AeroCatch is that they are large, require a flat surface to mount them, and have a large body you need to make clearance for. Both would require backing plates so I either choose a part of the hood without the structural frame or I cut away the structural frame. Im not a fan of the cutting part especially since this is carbon. What are your thoughts? How have you mounted your hood pins?

Not to hi-jack, but does the chrome trim on the front mount the same way as a factory steel hood?

Well...If your heart is set on the aero catch hood locks...And, you feel like being creative...And you definitely are...Loose the hood hinges, mount the aero catch system at the back of the hood where its flat. Fab a hook set up at the front that will hook the hood to the core support at both sides so it can not lift or slide forward and bobs your uncle...Just a thought...

Umm... I did ask for it. lol Thanks for the creative thought.

I may decide against pinning it all-together. There just does not appear to be many options for doing this so that it looks good but without doing serious cutting into a great hood. I've had a hood pop open on me before and the thought of this happening with this hood makes me ill. Any one have a method for installing a later model style safety hood latch?

There was a write up about using a latch from an F150 but I haven't found it yet.

I am at some point going to pin the front of the hood, but I am going to use the twist pins used on 71 - 73 Mustangs. The brackets allow the twist pins to secure at a location other than directly into the radiator support. I thought about attaching the brackets either to the second fender bolt or from the hood bumper extending in towards the engine, of course the battery would have to be relocated to the trunk first.

A friend of mine used the twist-locks on his Pinto.

This positioning would be ideal but it also places the pin on the structural portion of the hood.

At one time I did do some approximate measuring and it appeared that in one of the positions mentioned it would be right up against the hood frame, but might possibly clear it. The brackets curve slightly off center, so there is some wiggle room depending on which side they are mounted on. Of course you could also mount the brackets wherever you liked along the radiator support or fenders as long as you drilled your own holes. Wish I had more accurate info for you but I have not yet relocated my battery, so they are as of yet uninstalled.
