okay so I just finished fixing my lower dash tray (74) I got all cracks out, I fixed any broken disconnected pieces (stubborn glove box opening) and now I had an idea for a cool layout but still wanna keep it looking factory and maybe go for the ford gt look, I cant decide on color so I think I may just go for a modern look and wrap the whole dash in leather and maybe dress it up in chrome trim, ideas ?
thanks btw I know whats involved with applying leather and paint

I'll definitely take pics when I do, just trying to create a stick and color pattern template, also I'm still deciding between Leather or pleather and vinyl, I want the smell and modern look and feel of vinyl but pleather/vinyl is cheaper and looks like it so 50/50

Honestly, I think that Leather will look fantastic. Just make the seats the same stitch pattern.
This seems to bring up the age old question of how purest are you. In a Concours show, there are plenty of examples of vehicles that have used leather as opposed to vinyl and have won "Best in Show" scoring up to 297 of a possible 300. If you are not going to run in that particular circle, then leather would probably be an upgrade that can score well in many auto shows. Keeping a "Period Correct" color scheme may also be important. If this is no real issue as you may be modifying the color scheme, then I would consider that the car will have 2 colors. The body and the color of the stripes.
My opinion of the scheme would be in the following example:
    1. Body color: Gold
    2. Stripes: Black
So I would wrap the dash top in black leather, face of the dash would be the Gold leather (body color), doors panels would be black leather and inner panel gold leather. Carpet: black. Seats would be black leather with the inserts Gold leather. Steering wheel Black with the inner portion the body color. Headliner: Body color. behind the back seats (speaker covers) Black leather.
A scheme of this sort will make the car look polished and complete with flow.
If you have Photshop of GIMP, take some very food HD picks of the interior. (Make the frame of the pick as straight as possible and then simply hop on the computer and de-saturate (or use the plugin to make it black and white). Then select the regions and add your color to the areas as to determine the scheme that just has a good feel.
To me...you are at the true fun point of your restore.
-- all in my opinion, of course!

I like the idea of the leather but I voted paint. I don't think our dashes lend themselves to that look. Now if you were to do a custom dash that the overall contours etc looked more modern or some sort of integrated console then I would said leather. JM2C

    I'd rather have Ultraleather.

Oh, absolutely paint the face of the dash (body color). Mainly meant to cover the top of the dash with leather and the bottom trimmings with black leather. But yeah, definitely the face painted!

Yea I decided, leather is expensive but not that much in my budget so when I get the time I'll place a few orders, I may do it myself or have someone do it but I have google sketchup so I've been sketching my car and redoing everything and I made the dash (looks exact) gonna modify it though, also for the seats in gonna install 1969 mustang grande front bench/bucket seats, has a center pull down console so I can have both, and I'm thinking on putting some door panels from another car and maybe get an idea and make some of my own from fiberglass, also I have an idea for the lower dash, to replace it cause I know how it's gonna end up, I fixed it then it'll break again so I have a custom design, don't care for the glove box so gonna delete it and I'm gonna make a custom piece instead of the stock piece for the oem radio, I have a new radio from 2008 Lincoln Navigator and only paid $8 and works like new, original packaging and everything (won by bid thank god) so I'm gonna try to make a custom design for it

Also I am gonna wrap the dash black and have the center silver or grayish white, cause I'm gonna paint the car blue with silver stripes and black accents of the wheels with chrome
