So I have found a pic of what I want my engine to look like as I found so many pics of mavs that have nothing stock lol but I know it's possible but would chroming something be cheaper then buying a chrome cleaner lid or is it possible I can do it myself, I also wanna install 69 302 "powered by ford" valve covers cause I really really hate the look and style of the "Ford" with the rectangle around it, it looks too plain, anyone have those valve covers on you're car?

Those valve covers were used from '68 till '73-ish?, my '72 had a painted set... Small blocks never had chrome from factory, are available from aftermarket suppliers...

It will be cheaper to purchase a chrome air cleaner assy. Chrome plating components is not cheap. As for the powered by ford rocker covers. If you can find a set for your engine...go for it. As for chrome plating parts your self...How good are you at industrial chemistry???

Yea, I've seen a ton of those valve covers for sale from different markets but I don't really wanna by new as cause I'm gonna strip it down anyways and paint them silver, wouldn't wanna molest a new part, I just wanna see if they would look correct on these cars and I know I know "an engine bay is an engine bay" but I want it to look factory well my type of "factory" even though the parts in my motor are not factory, and for the air cleaner, I just don't wanna pay $140-200 for a chrome one when I have an air cleaner lid already that's in excellent condition, has anyone used "chrome" paint

    Thanks!!

Also wanted the stock look, still wanted to dress up a bit...

I believe last factory chrome small block covers were on the '67 Hi-Po 289, those had same shape but were blank with no writing... The oil filler I'm using was also used on Hi-Po 289 & 390 in '67, beginning '68 engines used closed systems with oil caps vented into air cleaner...

Yes, the chrome just looks much better than the blue painted versions.

This is the look I'm going for, looks good but not to much and I can make some things look performance :1st: but I know it's not a 302, it's a boss but still, it's the style I'm going for, my cars not even stock anyways so might as well

The Power By Ford valve covers are everywhere. Just grab a set as cheap as you can, strip them and paint them silver/aluminum. They are only $65 new: http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=361351342574&alt=web
Or just post an ad in the Parts Wanted section. I know you would find a set.

As far as the chrome air filter lid on a factory base, you may have to spend some money on that. Most aftermarket chrome lids are 14", which are too small for a factory base. Here is a good starting point: http://www.virginiaclassicmustang.com/67-70-MUSTANG-HIPO-CHROME-AIR-CLEANER-LID-P404026.aspx

I know, but everywhere I look there worth 40 to 140, the cheapest I bought was $10 at a swap meat but there for a 429 and have the point v style to them and don't fit (duh) so just looking for the best steal cause every penny counts and thanks, does anyone know the exact dimension of our stock base air cleaner?

If you are counting every penny, then you gotta know what you are buying, brother. If $40 is out of your price range for used, steel valve covers, then you may want to go to a junk yard and look at every 70s Ford there. Still probably gonna pay around $20 for the pair. Where are you located?

How much for the valve covers may be interested
What's the lowest you'll be able to take? I'm like really low on money but can make money quick by selling a few things
