Hello Everyone, I'm Victor. I live in Reynosa, just in the border with McAllen TX. I have a friend that is offerring me a V8 engine that belongs to a crashed Explorer. It is 2009 4.6L V8. it is complete with A/C compressor, injection system, etc. He tells that the engine is in fairly well condition. My cay have a V8 model 75 5L, tipical carburator - distribuitor have no A/C and manual transmission. my question is if can be possible to put such engine instead the old one. please advise. Thanks.

The biggest issue is the size of the 4.6! There about as wide as a big block ford! So getting it to fit in the maverick without shock tower modifications would be very challenging :( Would be a great engine for a mav though!!

That 4.6L definitely would not be a bolt in. I wouldn't go to all that effort and expense to install an engine that is in "fairly well condition."

It's far too large(meaning major modifications to engine compartment and suspension), the computer system is extremely complex and unless you or have friends that are a whiz with modern electronics, might as well be planning a trip to the moon...

go find you a modern 5.0 youll be much happier. you can convert it to a carb and not have to worry about any electronics and youll have a full roller motor

And BTW the 4.6 won't bolt to a 5.0 trans(bell housing), would have to swap both, that requires further mods... The trans is computer shifted and also the throttle is DBW(drive by wire), so computer won't be happy with a mechanical linkage throttle body... Also there is the matter of the security system that requires a programmed key from orig vehicle or it won't even crank...

    :Welcome: from Atlantic Canada!

As others have said, the 4.6L is way too big to be a direct bolt-in. You would have to cut/trim/remove shock towers and change your whole front suspension just to fit the engine in there. Then, as Tom says, it would be no small feat to get the fuel injection and all the mechanicals working in sync.

won't fit in the stock Mav engine bay, you'll need to chop out those shock towers. i would also get a transmission from the later model and if you want that setup then work your car around it to make it fit. Yes a late model 5.0 (cam in block) is a much easier swap but thats not stopping me from building a 4.6 for my Mav.... would be killer in these cars.

to add to this i would also hunt down a standalone ECU and aftermarket harness. its a little pricy but it'll save a lot of wiring headache
