I have a similar problem, and need to check the front end out. Otherwise, car is fine.

Stripping the years of paint and filler off the roof, I am not happy with what I see so far. I'm guessing the car was last painted before 1989 that was the year on the tag when I bought it. Whoever did it last put filler right on the bare metal, not good. Lots of pitting, I hope I can save it...

On mine (my 2nd comet, this one a 4 door,) the brakes were complete garbage. I've spent some of my spare time since this last summer until now restoring those brakes (new EVERYTHING except the hardlines.)

Today, I installed the final line....and that damned clip just will NOT go in there. It's sitting in my back yard right now, having had my entire vocabulary of profanity exhausted upon it.

Finally coming home tomorrow, it's my turn to finish her up! I'm sure I will start overloading the forum with questions over the winter.
