I am looking to convert my 73 Ford Maverick to manual steering and am wondering if all years for the maverick have the same size center link? I know the difference between power and manual being the 3 vs 2 holes in the link but just want to make sure if i buy a later model link that it will fit on my 73.
Also when i convert what do i do with the power steering pump? Do I just cap it off when i take off the lines going in and out and leave it?

The manual steering center links are different. 1970-1974 is different from 1975-1977 set-ups. The parts do not mix with each other as far as center link and pitman arm. Parts are easier to find for the 1975-1977 set-up in my opinion. I have the parts if interested....email me DIRECTLY (see below) if I can help.

As for the power steering pump. When I originally converted mine to manual, I made up an idler pulley so that it would still run the water pump. You don't want to run the power steering pump dry. Later on I found a different water pump pulley at NPD that would line up with the alternator and now one belt runs the alternator and water pump. Then I could eliminate the idler pulley. More recently I have installed a Borgeson power steering unit and it runs off the third or rear groove on the crank pulley. Of course all bets are off if you have a different style crank pulley. Good luck.

For temporary you can cut the pressure hose and loop it back to the pump return, not very elegant but will work...
