Agreed I can't see anyone adding a halo top...

The fender apron stamps are hidden by fenders, may be able to read it from inside fender well... Will be in the front one third area...

Not an LDO car.....so the top is an "option". The vinyl top should be listed on the Marti report, as well as listed as part of the COLOR code.

In the 70's, I worked for a vinyl top installer. We went from lot to lot to all dealers installing tops. They were very popular for awhile. And, dealers tagged on a big "mark-up". We put on our tops like the factory, unless customer wanted something custom like a split-top, or half-top.

IF and when you remove the halo top are you putting it back on ? I love that top and although I dislike vinyl roofs .... I would seriously be interested in buying the trim for it ... if it's not going back on

I am planning on completely removing the top eventually. The trim has a few dents in it from installation but is in pretty decent shape. I will keep you in mind.

Overall I am pretty happy with my Marti report. It was very nicely done. I am glad that Marti reports are available. I was not really trying to find out if my car was a 1 of (pick a number), I just wanted to know a little about its history. The car that Craig posted on here with the halo roof looks pretty good but if I return the car to it original color of medium yellow gold and adding black 70 Grabber stripes, I think I will delete the vinyl roof. I am thinking about going for the semi-Grabber clone look. I have a rusty Grabber hood but I am probably going with my stock hood and a 69 Mach 1 hood scoop.

Thanks for that on the trim  . I thought about the same idea with my '72 Maverick being as it's Canadian built but soon realized there's probably nothing special about it other than a/c and power steering since it's a 250 6 banger with drum/drum lol.

I however, thought it would be cool to do a 351W or Chevy 383 Stroker painted up like a Ford " One Off " Grabber clone, 2 tone Metallic paint job, Halo roof trim with a Metallic Black paint inside of it instead of vinyl, Sage Green Metallic body (I LOVE this color since I seen it on 2nd gen round body S10/Blazers), and either a Semi Gloss Grabber stripe kit down the sides/ Grabber hood area or Camaro SS stripes with a Yenko style side stripe :mischeif:

That being said ^ there is basically My Dream car -some details of interior, rims, and exterior billet goodies etc ya know ;) Keep me in mind for that "Rusty Grabber" hood lol

Both sides of the car have the VIN stamped in the top flat lip of the fender apron. It should be between the 2nd and 3rd fender bolt, under the fender. The fender(s) will need to be removed. For reference, mine was double VIN'd.

Look just ahead of the shock tower where the fender bolts on.

In this picture, you can see the lid of the washer fluid reservoir and one of the mounting bolts for it as well.

The only other way the halo trim may have been added would be to rivet the clips to the roof. I had to do this to the tops of my doors to install the window chrome trim along the bottom of the windows on my 77 4dr way back when, as the donor doors I bought did not have the studs for the clips. if your trim was salvaged off another car, this would have been a much quicker way to add the trim. It would also create several spots on the roof prone to leaking...

It was just a thought. Of course, we'll all find out once you remove the top!

I have a 73 Medium Yellow Gold LDO. The window sticker I got with the Marti report shows the vinyl top as a NC option. It was also a halo roof, but has since been removed. Looking at the pictures of your car, somebody has changed the bumpers to earlier versions. Mine was a July 1973 build out of Kansas City. Hope this helps fill in some of the blanks.
