    1. so the other day i was sitting at a red light waiting. i notice in my rear view a guy 3 cars back gets out of his car and does the slow crouching run up to my car. i honestly thought i was going to be robbed. i threw my seatbelt off ready to swing.

this idiot knocks on the side of my maverick ON THE METAL, and then comes to the window and asks what my car is. !!??

never mind it has 70 maverick as the tag, but its also got maverick emblems on it to.

    2. driving to see my mom and dad is about a 2hr drive. i took the mav cause my dad loves old cars. on the way up, on 2 separate occasions, i had people tag along beside me talking pictures or just looking. the bad part is, both times they started swerving since they werent paying attention to the road. i had to back off the gas just to get them to go on.

    3. everytime i get gas there is always at least 1 person who comes out of nowhere and starts asking me how much i want to sell it. so now i just say $50k so they will go on. theres a difference in people giving a compliment vs just being obnoxious and invading my space.

    4. people being all touchy and trying to crowd the car. DONT TOUCH!! must i say this to grown adults???

i understand people getting excited but my god, i feel like im going to die sometimes driving this car due to others stupidity.

now your stories please so i dont feel alone :)

Oh, I've had weirdos come up to me (like at a gas station) and be all over me, obnoxious, talking non-stop, and absolutely clueless about the car (one in particular thought the car was a Javelin).

One time while at a car gathering, some woman asked the guy she was with "is that a Vega?". He responded with "yep, that's what it IS.".

The last time I drove my Maverick (which was last year), I was cruising on a stretch of road that is a 55 mph zone and 3 lanes each direction. . It started raining. I'm going down the road and some moron is tail-gating me. I mean seriously tail-gating me. I couldn't believe it. I finally hit the brake and slowed down to about 15mph, figuring they'd just pass me in one of the other lanes. Instead, they just backed off, stayed behind me in the same lane, and did not tail-gate me again.
In any case, they got the "message", but why would anyone do that? (and no, I didn't cut anyone off in traffic, so it could not have been "road rage".

About a year and a half ago I had just filled up the 73 with gas and went inside to grab a drink. I came back out and there was two girls sitting on the front bumper while a guy was taking a picture of them. I shall not repeat what I yelled but needless to say I was not happy. If they had asked I would have been perfectly fine with it, but you don't touch the car with out permission let alone sit on it! They sure got out of there quickly after that lol.

At work several years ago...Myself and another mechanic I worked with (Darren) were sitting in the garage (end of the day) I was telling him about how people mistake my Sprint for a vega/camaro/nova/mustang...He didnt believe me, really couldnt believe how people could mistake it for such. A guy walking by the shop sees the mav in the lot and proceeds to scrutinize it, alot!... Then he sees us sitting there and walks over and asked "Who ownes the nova???" The look on Darrens face...Priceless!!! Yes it still wears all its Maverick badges as it did that day...Too funny...Darren proceeds to tell the guy, in no uncertain terms ( He is a rather...Outspoken fellow) that its not a nova. I would have chimed in but I was laughing so hard I couldnt speak...
Actually,Darren probably saved us both the stories about the boss 302 mav this guys grandmother had back in the 60's...He seemed the type.

I've had people jump out of their cars at stop lights on a few occasions and say nice maverick even thoe it's a comet but hey at least they didn't call it a vega,

Ah yes I've heard of this legendary unicorn known as the boss 302 Mav but I still have not been lucky enough to see one with my own eyes, I only have stories for days to go on :D:p

I took my comet to the grocery store and came out to see two guys leaning on my car like it was theres.
I walked up without saying anything until I got up next to them and asked" is this your car? they promptly responded "no" I said "well its mine GET THE **** off it! show some respect" :boxing: :chirp:

for the ones that recognize it think its a maverick. I think Ive only had one or two people actually recognize it as a comet

I had some jackass speed up to pull next to me, roll down his window, and ask me what my "NO MAVRK" license plate meant .... while we were weaving through cones in a construction zone.

Usually when driving the Comet OR the Maverick .. someone will invariably ask " What YEAR " is your car ??
They don't have a CLUE as to what BRAND the car is so they're expecting to hear .. Oh it's a 70 Maverick,
or a 74 Comet .. I just tell them the year .. and drive on with a smile !! Nice to be noticed though.

stories like thses make me NOT want to ever take mine to a show. if i do ill be sure to be the car nazi i used to think was a douchebag back when i was younger. however with that said, i NEVER touched someone elses car at a show. i did have the respect but just didnt realize how you must watch like a hawk to keep the vultures from tearing it up.

    another story....

last weekend my work buddy asked of i would let him and his son ride in my mav. i said sure but was kind of hesitant. i dont want to start doing the "joy ride" thing as its not for that. i knwo how other treat their own cars and i dont want that crap in my car. sooo....with him knowing how much i cherish it, i agreed. his 16yr old son who weighs about 230 and is a care free kinda guy, raises the seat forward to get in the back, and this is where the regret begins. when he gets the seat leaned down to clear his path, he puts all of his weight onto it as he climbs in and i thought it was going to break. then as he slides his butt past the door jamb, he basically lets himself fall into the back seat with no regard for weight transfer or anything. in the process of slapping himself down, his jeans catch on the leading edge of the rear upholstery trim on the armrest area and it breaks loose the first 2 clips from the body of the car and bends it in half almost creating a crease. i almost lost it and just stared at him. i let it go due to friendship and took them on the shortest ride of their lives and then promptly dropped their carcasses off back at their house and went out of there cussing as i drove away.

really???? cant even sit down in a back seat without tearing something up in 2 seconds????

My take is to enjoy the attention. There are a multitude of Mustang and Camaro drivers that would give their right arm to get people to notice their cars. I recently attracted more attention and comments trailering my Maverick to the upholstery shop for a headliner than I ever got when I owned my immaculate 2006 Mustang GT.

I get the usual people at gas stations like "I had one just like this, it was a 77 4dr in a crappy green with a 6cyl", like sure that sounds just like mine (y) see pic to left. Or I have gotten the "Oh cool a Maverick, who makes that?" a couple times. Nova seems to be the most common miss identification. My favorite, "oh it has a v8, think it can keep up with my 2014 Mustang GT, Camaro SS, etc.

Or, "oh, you put a V-8 in it". No, it came from the factory with the V-8.

I don't understand where or when people decided that they can touch peoples stuff without permission. people that have classic cars usually take better care of it then a modern car. we take pride in our vehicle, stuff. I started going to car shows when I was 6 or 7. we were taught not to touch anything back then. so we didn't, just enjoyed seeing the cars and the experience.

years ago when I drove my impala, I had people all the time sitting on my car leaning on it. a couple times I had people opening the doors and looking in.. felt like running them over. but I refrained..

It's the decline of western civilization. No respect. No sense of right & wrong. No common sense.
