I finally got to pick up my 71 Grabber with a 302 automatic with floor shifter. Actually, the grille is in great shape and will be installed in my other Maverick with new clear lenses installed. This car was given to me by a friend and was originally a 6 cylinder car. Notice the four lug rims...Ain't she a beauty......You can still see the Medium Blue Metallic paint and original stripes. The grabber hood is too far gone to use now, but the scoops may be used on a Dynacorn hood in the future.
My plan for the car was to remove all the parts that I need for my other Maverick and sell anything that I do not need. However, change of plan! My brother is into Rat Rods. I am going to give him the car because he wants to make it a Maverick Rat Rod. Otherwise, it was just going to the recycler after I removed the usable parts. I did however get the motor started and running. I may actually use the motor in my Maverick which is a 1968 model 302.
What all are you keeping if you don't mind me asking ? You know us guys are like buzzards when it comes to these cars. Any interests in trading it for a '98 50,250 mile 2wd v6 Rodeo ? lol had to ask
Presently I am giving the car to my brother to use as a Rat Rod type Maverick. He will make it roadworthy but keep the original petina on the car, probably clear coat what is there. I need the motor and motormounts etc, and will be giving him my 250 six cylinder motor to put back in the car. It is a 4 lug car, so and it originally came with a 200 six cylinder. If he puts it on the road, there won't be any spare parts left! Guess I cannot trade for your Rodeo since I promised the car to my brother.
After a couple hours of work, I got this old Grabber running and it has a real sweet sound! The motor is a 1968 model 302 with a 2 barrel carb. It should be a 210 HP motor as it sits. I am going to run a compression test next before I decide what direction I am headed on with this freebie!!
I would before giving it away. I don't think 'rat rodding' a Maverick is the way to go .... maybe the late 50s & 60s stuff but these little cars should be rebuilt when possible because there's just so few of them still around, titled, and running. I mean you see how many get parted out here, scrapped, unfinished and never to be seen of again .... consider it but ultimately it's yours and that is just my .02 cents
