    Hey guys,

What's that rubber hose that runs to the top of the junction for rear brake lines mounted on top of the rear end? Mine broke

I'm away from home or I'd have checked my Chiltons....

Stock rear end, stock brakes, 71 2-door

    (y)

Edit: From what I can tell on the forum, it's the vent hose for the rear axle. How important is that thing? (might have been detached for quite some time...)

It is a vent for the rear end so pressure does not build up and blow the 90 weight oil out of the seals, just have to try and keep dirt and moisture out

I'm supposed to drop it off tomorrow to have the exhaust done (maybe 10 miles each way). Doesn't sound like I'd hurt it driving down there, and I'll fix it over the weekend.

    Thanks bud!

Finally able to get back to maverick - new shocks to put on, brake bleeding, floor shifter adjustment... the fun stuff.

Quick question about this tube as I'll stop at the parts store on the way to the car: Should I/can I/is it a pain to replace the whole hose for the rear axle vent, or should I/can I use an adapter to join a new piece to what's left of the old piece that goes up under the car?

Probe the fitting with a piece of wire to ensure it's not plugged. IIRC, the hose goes up over the front fuel tank mount, makes a short loop, and is clipped there to keep it from drooping/falling...

Yea, it broke right at the nipple for the vent. I didn't ever check to see where it ran or how long it was...

Awesome! If it's that short and easily run, I won't worry about connectors and just replace the whole thing. Thanks! (y)
