Hey all, Well at least the link worked, this forum is a tad different than some others I'm in. No "edit" function or am I just not looking in the right spot? I've texted the owner from the above linked ad. This car has disc brakes, but from the few pics it looks like the instrument panel is gone? interior likely trashed. Does the shift stick look stock (no experience with Maverick's)? Do the bucket seats look original? It's been listed for a month or so now, we might go take a look. Chris
Welcome from Wisconsin ........ Solid advice from everyone about the car. As for the edit, look at the bottom left side of your posts and there should be an edit button.
It's neat to think about fixing up a barn find but for the same money you should be able to find one that is running and has everything intact. Just my two bits. MD
If you need a gas tank you are SOL unless you get really lucky. Might be able to get the original fixed, but it will cost. The gas tank in the 70 is a one year only part. Pour some water down the front vents and see if it goes on to the floor. If it does that is a major pain. I'd look for a 71 or later. Later year Mavericks and Comets also came with disc brakes already.
One of the first things that I do when looking at a Maverick for a purchase is to have someone pour a gallon of water into each side of the cowl while I look inside the car around the brake pedal, heater box, etc, for water leaks. I have run across two very nicely restored Mavericks that leak in the cowl. I cannot believe that someone went as far as they did with these cars and did not repair the cowl first or start with another car. Pics attached of the leaky cowl cars. The bright red car absolutely poured water into the floorboard by the brake pedal.
