Hello everyone from sunny San Diego..
Recently bought a 72 Comet 2dr that is in major need of loads of TLC.
Currently has non/barely functioning brakes, A whipped 200 auto with (most likely) 1-241k.
This is the 5th Mav/Comet that I have owned (others were daily drivers of my misspent youth in Ohio and were driven until they literally rusted in half).
So far i have learned that someone took apart the dash, possibly with a pry-bar with as many pcs that were broken and duct-taped together (inst cluster, heater controls). I'll have to post pics of the "custom dash bottom"
I have also found some interesting body repair and hidden rust issues.

What i am looking for right now is Pics of a Mav/Comet with the gutter and door/quarter window stainless removed. Planning on removing or painting them body color and want to know what it looks like underneath before I attempt to remove and possibly damage good trim.

My plan is to also remove my gutters - what I do know is that the gutter is multi layered metal that ties in the roof and the door frame - the plan is to remove a small section at a time and to weld the layers together as I go so they don't spring apart

I seen a build thread on that on a pro touring forum but don't recall exactly, I will try and find it. anyway someone shaved the drip rail on a 73 Mav I believe, he did like an eight inch section at a time

I think what he is asking is about removing the stainless trim. The 71 Comet GT's came without the stainless trim so Google should be your friend. - Matt

Yep, small sections at a time or the separate layers of metal will spread open

it's actually very easy, tape up the jaws of an ordinary pliers with duct tape and gently pry in an upwards direction a little at a time working from back to front. I haven't damaged one yet, may have to change the tape a few times in the process.

I saw a post somewhere, the guy was using an old school bottle opener with some electrical tape wraps on it for protection.

That was probably me. I posted pictures of that in my build thread.

I've successfully removed and reinstalled the gutter and window trim on several of these cars over the years. Take your time...
