"I told them if it wasn't fixed not only would I head to the York county BBB, id talk to my lawyer. He said he didn't respond to threats... I had to explain it wasn't a threat, it was the course of action that would take."

my rule is..."I don't make anyone redo anything"...if they didn't do it right when I was going to pay them, what kind of job will they do when I don't...
now if a company offers to right a wrong, I let them try.
I have a good example but will save it for later...:yup:

note...it may still leak when it's done right...

^ this is true here. I'll give them a chance. 1: right thing to do and 2: I paid them. 3: if they screw this up, then i'll cut it out and go after them legally. I'll have a 'water tight' argument.

im also making them come on location to do it this time.

they did put the stands back in, than much I do know. However, I made it abundantly clear my main goal was to have it not leak as top priority. that's why the interior is bare in the car. I have new seats, carpet, etc waiting to go in.

they finally admitted they didn't water test it. and, they used sealant betweent he glass and the seal, but not the body and the seal. stupid. young guys, prob inexperience but that's no excuse.

in the long run if I have to i'll do it myself, im more than capable, I just didn't want to do it. aaaand here I am. my own fault to a degree but I paid them for accountability more than anything, and im not going to let it go till its right by me.

and I did already talk to my lawyer. so I'm good. :)

    update:

got a call from the owner. he read the scathing yelp review I left and was super apologetic (hes based in a different location). we had a lengthy discussion, he saw it my way. he's contracting a guy who does vintage restorations only to come out and do the seal for me. deal we struck was:

if it is not to my satisfaction, he will refund all of it and take the glass. I told him I want to keep the glass as long as its in good shape and he's willing to refund all the labor if im not happy with it and i will redo it myself.

down side I have to wait until Wednesday.

    so, lets see.

they will never do another car of mine though.

so .. as a follow up... they sent their 'old car specialist' out and sealed the seal to the car. did the upper and both sides, mediocre at best. still didn't install the trim or the mirror. didn't call when it was done per my request. so I had to seal the bottom myself and do all the trim, etc. at least it doesn't leak. so much for good customer service.

... and this is why I own so many tools. to avoid the ones outside my toolbox. gah. here's the copy/paste from my yelp review just incase any locals to nc/sc are reading this.

    TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!

Ordered a windshield for my vintage (1970s ford) car, told me it would take a week. put deposit down, they ordered wrong windshield. then somehow the next day they tracked the right one down in 4 hours.

the original quote on the phone cost of glass was 185. then it jumped to 210 when I went in. ok

I prepped the car myself, pulled old glass out, provided seal, straightened surround, pulled all trim MYSELF. Did it correctly I might ad. saved all the clips, trim, and seal, removed the rear view mirror and had everything labeled.

All they had to do was rope in the seal and glass, this takes a true professional about 30 minutes, max.

I told them since I did all the prep work would they do the trim install? they said sure.

dropped car off Tuesday at 8am. (made appointment for this) by end of day said it wasn't done yet . I said ok, take time they promised next day by noon.

called said I was coming said they needed until 2pm. arrive at 2:20, cars not out front. they say a few of the yellow trim clips were broken (some were missing actually by a previous owners installation) but the tabs on the car and the trim were fine. they gave me a BS excuse they couldn't install it. oddly, all the trim was on the car 5 days ago using all the parts they had in hand.

they still charged me full quoted installed price.

then, I realized they didn't put the rearview mirror on. wanted more time. I left. last time I will ever use them.

completely unprofessional. woman at counter was snippy and short with me. the techs were full of excuses.

For the record, I was an ASE certified technician 20+ yrs ago until I went back to college to get my mechanical engineering degree, in the late 90's.. so , I'm a well educated customer with hands on experience. Please, I hope you reading this that may not be as fortunate to have my experience not be fooled by these guys. They are rank amateurs and not to be trusted.

also, they need to be aware of the fact I and my wife are car collectors as is my friend who dropped me off. I personally have 15 vehicles, most vintage, and he has over 20. This could have been a nice steady customer /business relationship. but, they screwed themselves out of our business. This was a test which they failed miserably.

Maybe they should read that bible they had sitting on the counter and try to learn what honesty and integrity is. Instead I think they lay it out there to hide behind.

'have a blessed day' they said to me, as they pissed on my leg and took my money

    FU Gaston glass.
