so my 351w swap has gone pretty smoothly but ive come to a problem. my old pulleys wont work because i took p/s out so i have no way to get a belt on my water pump. i was wondering what setup others have used on their v8's so that i have one belt that goes from the crank, to the water pump then to the alternator and back to the crank

I used an aluminum water pump pulley from National Parts Depot. It has two grooves and the rear groove lines up perfectly with the alternator and crank, at least on my engine. Good luck.

The non-P/S setup used different crank and water pump pulley, similar to what was used on '69-earlier 351/302/289... The pre '70 used a three bolt crank pulley so doesn't fit the four bolt balancer...

I used two groove water pump pulley off of a 1970s Ford Dump Truck. (true story) .... good luck finding one now ... I think the motor was a 360. If so, you may luck out and find the same thing in a smaller Ford pickup. My Dad's 76 F250 had that motor. That was one of the last FE motors, so maybe 390-428, too.

My setup used the middle groove on the crank pulley, front groove on the water pump pulley, and they the alternator needed to be spaced forward a bit.

    Hope this helps .... ;):):thumbs2:

Those are the one's I'll be using in an under-driven V configuration. A little research shows plenty of positive feedback on their quality.

IMHO, American companies like this should be commended for competing at the off-shore craps same economical price point.

I make my living as a machinist am quite pleased by the quality of the parts they put forth. Purchased a mid mount alternator set up also

if I remember correctly year's ago I just removed the aluminum piece from the head and bolted alt to head and either moved lower arm brace to different bolt on waterpump or used an old chrome brace that was stepped different or actually I think I just bolted through other side of brace into lower ear of alt.......ex bolt went thru brace thread into alt from back....once alt shifted back the bolt went thru from front. lined up perfectly ....mind you this was almost 25yrs ago ignorance is bliss . :)

Thanks for the feedback, Joe. Did you install the standard or underdrive option?

Was originally going to fabricate a low mount setup but still undecided on springing for the innovators west belt drive with BBC mounting plate option. Trying to plan/invest ahead and futureproof for my aluminum shortblock but that kind of mod' changes everything else in the proverbial domino affect. Plus time will probably be too short with all the major mechanical's still in process anyways. I quick looked in your media section but that engine pic seemingly shows the factory brackets. If or when you have time, could you post an updated pic?

    Thanks again,

    Greg

Makes no difference.. all windsors are the same.. belts just get longer with a taller block. lol

Biggest pitfalls are the dampers mounting depth and water pumps snout length. Ford made enough different combo's through the years that you need to be cautious of mish-mashed kits throwing off the alignment geometry. Pulley shims and spacers good as a fine tuning aid.. but not really intended for higher rpms. The added vibrations the come with heavily spaced pulleys can eat at the water pumps bearings/seals.

Serpentine setup from a late 80's Crown Vic. They used a standard rotation water pump.
