Those are different buckets. Don't look like the standard GT bucket seats but some sort of lowball bucket. - Matt

Yeah that's part of the reason I questioned whether or not it was a GT

I was thinking they might not be OE seats, not so sure after looking at the rear seats -- have the same pattern as the fronts. My 73 has roll sections going vertical instead of horizontal. I don't have enough knowledge on these cars to know if earlier models may have had different pattern on the roll sections. Some of the folks w/ years of experience may lend some help with this question.

It looks like someone either modified original buckets to make them shorter or they adapted a set of original style seat covers to some low back buckets. - Matt

The pattern is definitely correct for '71, they are exactly the same as the '71 grabber I had in '93. It also matches the high back buckets that came in the '71 GTs. I believe they are just the standard buckets that were available that year. I am inclined to believe it came that way from the factory. When my dad bought it, it only had 35k and was very clean, i dont think somebody would have pulled the high-backs out and put those in. Is it possible that maybe not all GTs came with high-backs?

I am inclined to agree everything you have outlined! Those seats look OE..

image.jpeg Maybe it's just the camera angle then. They sure don't look like they sit as tall as the other high backs. Here's a picture of my 71 with the original high backs. See how far they extend up above the window line. Yours don't look that tall. Definitely the correct seat covers though. Maybe a better picture of yours to compare. matt

Maybe it's the seat tracks? They are definitely sitting lower and leaned back. - Matt

Here's a picture of original buckets, I think this came from Craig Selvy, but look at the top and count the pleats. You seats have been shortened. - Matt image.jpeg

Yeah I'm with you on the height difference, mine are definitely low-backs

Would somebody have shortened them though? I'm pretty sure there were two different heights available, that's why they call the taller ones 'high-backs' or so I thought.

No, only one size. Buckets in them, either those or the bench seat. - Matt

Only one size of bucket seats.

And yes....that is a picture of my bucket seats.

    Dan,
That is a very clean Comet. Can't help you with the seats, mine had the high buckets. Ford had some strange combinations back in the day. Just another mystery to think about. Let me know when you get the car home.
