Good luck. I took mine to an exhaust shop for dual flowmasters 40s with x-pipe exiting behind the rear tires. I'm running Crites long tubes. When I went to pick the car up, they have the flowmasters exiting before the front tires and no x-pipe. They couldn't go over the rear axle with 2-1/2 pipe. I ended up having them fix it and put turn downs at the rear axle. It sounds pretty good.

Sorry to hear about your engine fire. I've had a couple myself and they are always scary. I always use plastic filters but install them just before the fuel pump. This way the fuel pump is protected from trash from the fuel tank. The glass ones are dangerous and have caused many engine fires.

sounds like you need to find a better shop. I have long tube headmans a H-pipe 2.5 inch pipe into magnaflow mufflers, over the axle and tucked in behind the rear tire on the outside of the leaf springs. Oh! and they made my H-pipe removable just in case I need to pull the transmission for service...

I agree. I will never use them again. They were close to my house, so it was a quick trip with a barely tuned car running open headers.

There should be NO REASON to grind on the pitman arm.

Thanks Craig. Was able to stop the shop before they cut into bell housing or did any grinding on pitman arm. Was also able to get a hold of Jamie from Doug Thorley... He said the collector should be cut back pretty far, then cut two J-pipes to make an S and that should clear without having to cut into bell housing or grind pitman. Hope this works. I'll post photos when it's all done and hopefully save someone else some headache.

Does anyone have photos of installing these without dimpling or cutting bell housing? That I cannot seem to find.

    Thanks

They did it without cutting bell housing or grinding the pitman arm.. I spoke with Jamie from Doug Thorley and he offered to do it if the shop couldn't .... talk about customer service. As soon as I told that to the shop, I think they felt like they had to rise to the challenge. Pays to be local. IMG_7672.JPG IMG_7674.JPG IMG_7673.JPG

Can you clarify the part about cutting the collector? I can see the clever welding of the exhaust pipe but can't tell what you did with the collector itself. Congratulations to the shop!

I picked her up this morning. I'll wire in the cutouts tonight.

Here's a quick clip of what she sounds like. I think she's running a little rich... have to dial the carb in and re-check timing and shifting linkage. It didn't feel like the transmission was engaging in the right gears...had to fiddle with the shifter a bit. It never ends, but a big milestone for the Comet today.
