Hey guys, i bought my car with a huge boss style scoop on it. At first i hated it, and now its grown on me. Just looking for others opinions . something is necessary due to an intake and holley putting the air cleaner through the hood. At least its functional... maybe move it back some? Smaller? Cowl? Love to see what you guys have too!
Oh, hell no!. Sorry, first impressions are usually correct. What is making it necessary? Maybe someone here has some input on changing your intake set up to something more appropriate. Post some under the hood pictures and a description of your motor. Is this a track car, street racer? What are your plans for it? Micah
Haha yeah that was my first impression too. Its necessary because the intake, carb and filter combo forced the previous owner to cut a hole in the hood. Something needs to keep the rain out and it gives the motor a lot of cold air as a plus. Its an edelbrock performer 289 intake With a holley 4160 carb with the small triangle shape filter. It sticks about 1.5- 2" out of the hood Im planning on making it a street beast. Future engine mods include cylinder heads, a mild cam and possibly a weiand 174 roots blower if i can save my pennies well.
I don't care for it. I have always thought the height of the Boss 429 scoop looked way too big on the Maverick's and Comet's. An Edelbrock Performer intake isn't a very tall intake. That should fit under the stock hood. I have a taller Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap on my '72 Grabber and it fits under the stock Grabber hood.
Yeah i have no idea why it sits so tall. It may have something to do with the homemade solid motor mounts the previous owner made when he did the V8 swap. The whole motor could be sitting higher than normal.
I would agree, too much for such a small space. You could cut it down about half the height and it would look about right, here's a good example of one that was shortened.
Rogue302, I would say that the first thing you should do is spent the $150 and get the correct motor mounts. Micah
The worst thing an owner can do is build a tough looking car with nothing to back it up. Being a little conservative is good!!!
when I was running my 250, I would come up on the brake at a light just to see them leave acting all crazy... I was in the supermarket last Sat. with my 5 yo Grandson. I was pushing him around in one of those shopping carts with the car front end. a lady pulled up beside us with another car buggy. I asked Mason to see if the other little boy wanted to race. his Mom turned left into the next isle and told me..."there's another lane" and pointed beside her cart...Effie walked up and stopped us before it got out of hand (I think we could have taken Her)...LOL
