Welcome to the site from northeast Ohio!!! Before you go diving into this project you need to decide how you plan to use your Maverick. Is it just going to be a show cruiser or does it need to be designed with very aggressive driving in mind? You can spend a tremendous amount of time and money on parts you do not really need due to poor initial planning. For instance, if it is just going to be a cruiser a boosted 302 looks the same as a boosted 347. Regardless of which displacement you choose the engine needs to be built with your desired amount of boost in mind. At a minimum that usually means lower compression, forged pistons, a camshaft designed for boost and a set of efficient aftermarket heads. If I was building a stoker engine for boost, I would also utilize an aftermarket block. A boosted 302, not so much. If you mess up a 302 short block, get another one. The top loader transmission should be strong enough. Even the 8" might be strong enough depending on how you plan to drive the car. You would be wise to go to a 9" if aggressive driving is the plan. There are persons that write on this forum with far more knowledge than I concerning this subject. Hopefully they will offer their opinions. Good luck with your Maverick project.
I dont want to used as a daily car but the day i took for a ride if somebody want to mess whit me i dont want my engine break or my trans or my rear end
I am in another car forum and one guy told me if you have 302 mexican block you can buy a gt40p heads and some arp bolt kit and a maingridle an thats it and the engine can take until 750 or 800 hp and i was like i need a second opinin
When considering a centrifugal supercharger, there are several things you should think about prior to purchasing one. Prochargers are a quality product, but noisy. I know, having owned a marine version. To some, that is sweet music and to others, irritating. Torq Storm is the new kid on the block. They are machined out of billet aluminum vs. cast, claim they produce more torque at a lower RPM and carry a limited lifetime guarantee. The most popular with Ford enthusiasts is the Vortech. They are available in many trims and gearboxes. If noise is your thing, a Vortech V1 gearbox with straight cut gears is for you. The V2, with helical gears is much quieter, but still requires an external supply of oil from the engine, like the V1. The V3 has both the helical gears and a self contained lubrication system, meaning you don't have to run oil supply and scavenge lines to it. Your chances of finding a used Vortech system are better than most because they are so popular. Potential money savings. I haven't mentioned the Paxton, but their 1200 and 2000 series Novi's are also favored by some. With any supercharger, you at going to have to invest in the appropriate fuel and ignition system to support your HP goals. This can get expensive, so be prepared. This is not a Fox body Mustang, so packaging everything in the small Maverick engine compartment will pose additional challenges. Lastly, the 302 Mexican block will NOT take 750-800 HP without splitting in two pieces!!
Im not tjinking in 800 or 750 im more like 500 whit the help of the super charger and what doyou think about my trans and rear end can i make it stronger or i have to cgange it for a 9 inch
A Mexican block should hold up to 500HP with a good tune. A toploader 4 speed will handle it as well. The 8" rear will be very marginal, especially if you run drag radials or slicks. I would upgrade to a 9" and not have to worry about it.
