A friend is likely to have flooding issues due to Hurricane Irma. Has three cars insured with them. Anyone gone through this? If flood damaged, is there a way to settle and retain the cars? Partial settlement, etc?
Yep! The appraiser that examines the damage to the vehicles should offer you a ' buy back ' after he determines the amount ( $$ ) of the damage to the vehicle . He will wait for YOU to make an offer .. Don't do it .. Let THEM tell you what they'll settle for . Cometized (Chip)
Hello guys! The cars were amazingly safe. He got the normal amount of water on his street equal to a hard summer rain here, about a foot. The water barely went up his driveway. He is right on the bayou. The worst aspect of all of this was no electric service for a week. A large palm tree fell from my neighbors into my back yard ... perfect landing. Missed my porch by a couple feet. I have to replace four pieces of screen. The storm dropped to a Cat 2 by the time it got here and we were on the "good" side of it. That still means it pounded us. I have an oak tree in my back yard that is 4 feet in diameter, about 60 feet tall. One foot diameter stems were waving like one of those inflatable waving car lot dummy balloons at the height of the wind ... 2 AM. We all stayed away from that side of the house. A 5 foot diameter tree with a 12 foot root ball got knocked over in another friends neighborhood. My buddy with the cars and his wife hunkered down with us. I was grateful that the kids and grandbabies beat it out of town. It has been a rough week, but finally got great sleep last night. I have a to do list for the next storm and will strongly consider leaving if one was projected any higher speed than what we went through. Grocery stores are half functional right now. Ice was scarce until yesterday and it still is not widely available. Couldn't get gas for 2 days after the storm. The response from the electric companies has been stunning. Crews from as far away as Quebec are working here. They are the heroes right now. Finally feel like I can be about 75% back to normal right now. Good to be back!
Glad to hear you made it through relatively unscathed... Yeah when Isabel rocked through here in '03 there were power companies from all over eastern US helping out... I stopped to talk with a crew from AL that looked lost and they were... Probably 15 miles from their assignment area... Rather than try to give directions, I went back to my service truck(I fixed TV) and got my spare map book for them of our area... By big grins on faces one would have thought it was Christmas, couldn't thank me enough... I said was least I could do for their assistance in our time of need... Our power was out for three days and my mom's & mother in law's both for seven days(crusty old ladies wouldn't think about leaving their houses to stay with us or other relatives)... Some areas were out as much as three weeks as repairs were prioritized by number of customers the repair got back on line... A guy I used to race with at strip was one of those that didn't have power for three weeks...
Hi Cap ' : Yep !! Just got Power back yesterday afternoon at the house , and I had Power at the Plant two days after it went out !! We were able to keep everyone working and the ACs on .. Hung out at the Plant most of the days .. and visited family that HAD Power and settled in there till yesterday when MY Power was restored. Must have gained 15 pounds with my Sister's cooking in just a few days ! Glad to be back home in my own digs with the AC cranking now. Thanks for asking Cap. I hope everyone else fared o.k. I lost 5 pounds and that was even with the "ooh, we better eat this before it goes bad ... (steak, scallops, shrimp, hot dogs, hamburger, pork chops ... pick a day, new food). We did it in style too ... patio dining by candlelight. Big fan driven by an inverter on the car. As much as I would like to think the 5 pounds was from all the physical work, and I am in better shape after these past few days, it probably will just be water weight from constant sweating. When my wife and I got back home, one of the first things we did was strip the bed linens. I asked her if she wanted them placed in the laundry pile or she rather I take them out back and simply burn them.
Hi Cap' Just reflecting on the past weather worries .. Our CARS were better protected than the people since they were INSIDE a Concrete Block Building .. Steel Doors , and interior Iron Window Guard Grilles and double locks on each walk thru door. Haven't driven any of them since the storm cleared .. still lots of rainy weather and there is really no place I'd want to drive them to without slopping them up in the process ! Chip
I prepped my house in St Pete then went up to Crystal River to help my mother and grandmothers houses. All the houses had no damage thankfully! I even had to leave my maverick outside with a tarp and car cover on it and it was fine too! I go into a little accident on the suncoast about a month back so I will soon be putting on that fender I bought from you, Capt'n.
I am glad all the y'all made out well. Mother Nature can be a **tch. Going throught hurricanes can be very humbling.
Glad everyone made it through ......... On our news tonight they did a story about some of our Wisconsin power crews that went down to help. They have been amazed at working in areas filled with alligators, snakes and fire ants. Something we just don't think about up here.
I was lucky and the maverick came out unscathed, even drove it to work today! My buddy wasn't so lucky. The roof to his garage came off and he got some water damage to his car that he was prepping for paint. Luckily nothing too serious though. Glad everyone else made it through ok!
