Does anyone know why Ford moved the sport mirrors further back on the 71-'77 models from where they were mounted on the '70 models? Was there a technical reason, or did they just think it looked better that way?

Yes, '70 has cable remote located in the same spot as later cars.

We noticed this one year at Carlisle with all the Mavericks in a row. Sport mirrors were factory mounted at three different locations.

I have a 69.5, and moved mine back to the later location. It was made without sport mirrors, so it was an easy decision. I think it is easier to see what is around you with the closer mirrors.

WHO CARES ? :) If the car has the mirrors moved ' rearward ' I think it would be a good move . I moved my Maverick Mirrors back when I built the car again..

Interesting .......... 2 have said they like the mirrors back, and I have always liked it forward so that is where I put them when I drill a door for the nutzerts. I use the factory measurements from my 70 Grabber.

With mirrors farther forward, there is a larger viewing area..

They did the same thing on the 70-71 Torinos. The 71's are moved further back on the door.

I personally think they "look best" mounted more forward to blend in around the front pillars.

But from a functionality and aero standpoint(if there is such a thing as aero on a maverick or comet)?.. they work better mounted back away from the front pillars.

I saw that white thing that was sold at auction a while ago, with the mirrors on the front fenders. I guess that's far forward.
