hi all. i joined a while ago and it seems i never posted. now i am searching for my old maverick and the forum came up in a search, so here i am.

my car was a 72 non-grabber white exterior black interior. when i sold it it had a mildly built 5.0 with ported DOOE heads and a solid cam, C-4 and steep gears.

my grandmother had bought the car new at John Kennedy Ford in Feasterville, PA. when i sold it on ebay a man from Ohio bought the car. he subsequently sold it to a family member of his, who then sold the car again... supposedly the car went to California.

the most distinguishing feature of the car was the stock steel hood that i had modified as a cowl hood by removing some of the bracing and raising the middle section of the steel, then filling with fiberglass. it was kind of ghetto, but served the purpose. when i sold the car, i gave the buyer a black folder with alot of the original documentation in plastic sheets. my name is Mike Potts and granny's name was Rosalie Potts, these names should be on some of the paperwork.

i know this is a long shot, but im hoping to find the current owner to possibly repurchase, if not for sale maybe at least an update on where it went.

I wish, the only thing i have is the very expired (40 yrs ago) tag in that pic. My dad is going thru his stuff to see if he has anything that might have the VIN, but thats my last hope on that.

The car also had a B&M prostick on the floor in front of the bench seat and an Autometer monster tach on the drivers pillar. I know these things are easily changed, just throwing it all out there.

If you find a VIN, you could check it against the VIN List we keep here on the Forums. It would also be a good idea to post it in the VIN List thread so that I can add it to the list in case the current owner happens to be on this forum and posts it himself.

Good suggestion. Unfortunately the PA tag in the pic was too old according to the State office. I went to my local DMV near home to see if they could retrieve the VIN from my registrations. They said all the files that old have been purged (over 5 yrs). I am going to try another DMV office down the street from my office (different county), just to make sure there is nothing they can find.

I GOT IT! had to goto the DMV today to register the F100 im building and on a whim i asked her to recheck for my maverick. first couple searches came up with nothing still, then i asked her, "since i had an antique tag on it and they dont expire, could it still be active and NOT in the archive?" VIOLA!! there it was.

now my next problem... how to search an 11 digit VIN? its 1X91F183226

i did some more digging online and used one of the paid search tools. it showed that the guy who bought it from me was in fact from KY not OH. it was registered in KY on 8/3/2007 with 61,868 miles. then registered again in KY on 2/7/2011 with 81,000 miles.

Well, even though you are not brand new here, welcome from Portland, OR. I feel a little silly saying it because you have been a member longer than me, lol. Hope you find that car.
