Started the engine swap process, taking 302w out and swapping in a 351w. We are taking out the shock towers and putting new coil overs, upper A arms and forward struts. We have a stock front end. Anysuggestions and advice would be awesome.

With y'all takin out the shock towers it should be fairly straightforward. Just gotta watch hood/carb clearance

I'm in the process of putting an aje strut front suspension on my car. In my opinion it's the way to go for room u derived the hood and driveability.

In addition to pics of the final installation when you're done, can you take a few pics of how you modified the sheet metal to accept the struts? I'm sure the members would greatly appreciate it. :bouncy:

Some progress made today! We are only able to work on car once a week! Getting ready to jack it up and take springs out and cut out towers.

Shock towers are completely cut out, next step is putting the rest of the roll cage together and foward struts. Any recommendations on upper A arms and coil over setups for a race car?

I recommend a ARC touch pad set up..they come with a self contained fuse and relay panel. Very simple to install and have a lifetime warranty. I really like mine

I pulled all the old wiring and installed a Painless 16 circuit kit in mine even though I didn't need all those circuits.

My dad and I are in the process of upgrading our race car!! We went with the whole cutting out the towers and creating more engine space!! We still have to find coil overs but have the ride height where we want it!! The plan is to install a 351w stroker engine! This is a budget build but are looking to improve on what we already had!! We used to run 11.50’s with our 302 but the plan is to get to 10.90s!!

Can you give me some details about the 302 you're taking out, how it was built, etc.?

It's funny how people always refer to the 302 as a "Windsor".

It differentiates the US 302 from the Aussie 302, which used cleveland heads as I remember. Basically a Boss 302 but IIRC, had the smaller 2v style ports with the nice tight 4V closed chambers.

BUT for US 302 Windsors, every one was was cast and built at Cleveland.

The Windsor plant opened in 1966 and built 289 through '68, then switched to 351 for '69 models. Meanwhile Cleveland was also building 289 and been doing so since it's introduction in mid '63. Till 1970 there was no such thing as a Windsor, the 351 was part of small block family. Because Cleveland built a different 351, a distinction became necessary.
