I have a bad hinge pin bushing in my 1977 Comet 2 door, and I ordered new bushings through Rock Auto, but I can't find anywhere that sells new hinge pins. Anybody know of any places, or of a way to remove the pins so they can be reused?
It is an oldie - but still valid Read the whole thing as I added info after the NAPA pins info http://mmb.maverick.to/resources/door-hinge-pin-replacement-101.133/
Melvins Classic Ford Parts sells them ... https://www.parts123.com/parts123/dyndetail.pta?acclink=0001018oAAAIV
I picked up a set last summer from either AutoKrafters or Melvins can't remember which, but they were not too expensive and relatively easy to change out. Its a two person job to position the door during removal and installation of the pins though. I made a cradle from some 2x4's to hold the door in position that made it a lot easier too.
My door was already off the car because it needed some work. Fully loaded with glass, etc, I guessimated it to be a bit over 100 lbs. I got it roughly back in place with the hinges bolted in, then did the fine adjustment with the back end of the door sitting on a floor jack while a helper snugged the bolts. The rebuilt door with fresh hinges and new latch pin sounds almost as good closing as the passenger side, and that still sounds showroom new on my car. As far as I know, the passenger door has never been adjusted after Ford put it there. If you do not want to take the door off, you can pull the plastic liner out of the front fender, and get to the door hinges and remove them, one at a time, while leaving the door in place, closed.
