I'm still working on removing my Upper Control Arms and am borrowing an EverTough Coil Spring Compressor, model 67050, from O'Reilly's. Here's a visual. Trouble is, the hooks are a little too big and the metal rod doesn't appear to stay at dead center. Have any of you used this exact model? Is it safe to use on a '77 Maverick? Typically, I'd try to do some more internet research here, but given how dangerous these things are, I'd like a little advice on how to proceed. Thanks!
I just used the one from Autozone, be careful, but worked great. Looks to be the same design however. Rotate the hooks around until it’s center then play with how you will bring the bottom piece into the spring. I want to say it’s best right to left, but could be the other way around.
I used the autozone version too. Looks the same, and I was very cautious with it but it worked fine. Make sure the arms are on the spring correctly and the slide in piece is all the way slid in. Keep an eye on it and dont use an impact wrench. I dont know what happens if you use an impact, but I read warnings against it.

Good deal. Remember to be just as careful when decompressing the spring after removal. I used an old skate board over the spring held down with one hand while I loosened the bolt with the other.
Simple compressor tool can be fabbed ' from spare shock tower cap, old shock bottom and #8 rod. I still run a safety chain thru coil and take care... An old snowmobile bearing helps prevent binding haev fun
