I ordered a pair of new ones for my comet. They only came with 2 wires. My original has 3 wires. The third wire is a ground to the header panel. When I cut the old socket open the Third ground wire was just wrapped around the wires. Not connected at all ...
So did I order the wrong sockets? or do I connect the third wire to ???

Well I figured out the third wire issue. There is a spade terminal inside the socket!:)
BUT now I am running into another issue....:( How do you get the new slight socket into the housing? I have tried tapping it in (both ways) but it does not stay, it just falls out?
Do I need to tack weld it :hmmm:

AKAIK the originals were crimped in place.

You're going to have to devise some method of securing, a bit of weld is probably as good as anything. Once you're satisfied with install a liberal amount of RTV around socket opening would be a good idea.

I was going to suggest soldering it, but that may involve more heat than would be good for any plastic bits inside.
Perhaps JB Weld around the opening? They make a waterproof version called WaterWeld.

Update: My terrible welding skills did not work. I tried Soldering and that didn't work, so JB Quick Weld to the rescue and it is solid.
