Hi I recently bought a 77 maverick thats in pretty rough shape, I was wondering if there are some things I need to watch for, and what I should do to tune it up a bit

Welcome to the site from northeast Ohio!!! :tiphat:

Rust is usually the biggest and most expensive issue. The amount of rust however is the one thing you determine before you make the purchase of a vehicle. Hopefully you are already aware of any rust issues.

As Frank suggests, pictures would be helpful.

Welcome from Portland, OR. Did you drive it home or tow it? One that has been sitting a long time usually has a lot of needs.

I drove it from Everett, Washington to Long Beach, Washington (which is basically across the state north to south). I haven't had any problem so major that I haven't been able to drive it (btw I am not a mechanic, so there might be reasons I shouldn't and am ignoring), but yes I do have some pictures. And it has reeeeaaaallllyyyyy bad rust issues on the body 130.jpeg

Can't tell much about rust issues from the pictures. What does the undercarriage and engine bay, towers look like?
Also, the carpet under the steering column and heater box. If you have water damage these areas, most likely a leaking windshield seal, leaking cowl or heater core.

Appears to be mostly surface rust under engine bay; what does the floor look like under those floor mats? I have seen a lot worse for the limited pictures you have provided. Looks like the heater control removed some time in the past for the jury-rigged panel.
I would replace all rubber hoses, change brake fluid, inspect brake wheel cylinders/calipers-pads and that's just for starters. The list gets long for operating a 40+ year old car on todays roads.
