Need to know what starter to use with a 3.8 t5 bell housing. Or if we need to find a different flywheel or bell housing. Any help is hugely appreciated!!!

Use the starter for the 3.8, it's what was designed for it.

Ok just wasn't sure looks like teeth are engaged with flywheel. We don't have original flywheel just one off a 302. Don't know if that matters.

There are two 302 flywheels, 157 tooth and 164, you need the larger of the two with the V6 T5 and you'll be good to go.

    Isn’t there 4 302 flywheels, 28oz 157/164 and 50oz 157/164?

    Yes!

    The '65 289 should require a 28oz imbalance.

Yea, there are but I was just referring to the tooth count on the ring gear. Guess I should have worded it better.

Not a problem, I understood what you were saying but someone with less hands on time may not know of the different imbalance flywheels.

Jiffy lube put 8 quarts of oil in my step van 300 6. I thought my flywheel to crank holes did NOT go through, but evidently oil soaked clutch and bolt threads say otherwise. There must be a real small portion that goes through? I am gonna use thread sealer forever now. I think my days of wrestling trannies are over, and a tranny jack is gonna replace my floor jack on the next one. Always learning it seems.

Probably flooded the rear main seal.

I doubt the flywheel bolts could care, there is plenty of splash in this area.
