i have a 73 maverick with factory disc up front and drums out back. It’s been okay at stopping so far. But with new motor i expect the car to be about 20 mph quicker than it used to be. (Expecting about 130ish). Do a little street driving but mostly track. I know some of the thinner drag brake rotors warp on the street so I just want to make sure I get something i won’t mess up.

    Thanks !

No '73 Maverick had disc brakes from the factory. I converted mine to '75 disc brakes from a Mercury Comet. The factory 11 inch discs are not up to the task of 130mph.

9:90s @132 with tiny 9 inch single piston front disc from a old Mazda strut and 11 inch rear drums. Dont be scared.

Haha. Thank you. I’ve had some brake issues with car but before I take the car down I plan on going over everything. I’m going to be changing the rear before I race so I most likely will be changing to some type of disc before I run in the rear.

Weight has a lot to do with it. Just as we lighten up our cars to make them faster, a lighter car also stops faster. I put Aerospace on mine; won't use them again. Don't like their calipers, at least not the single piston lightweight style anyway. I have to rebuild or replace them too often.

Yeah my car was about 2700 without me in it. With roll bar and all the turbo stuff in it I’m sure I’m closer to 2850 or so. Car is pretty much gutted. I was looking at the wilwood front conversion. Not too expensive. Really at this point just trying to tighten up the car steering and braking wise.
